Don’t let the winter weather get you down – it’s time for Tuesday’s Quick Hits!
Here are the topics for today’s independent commentary:
- Great Falls Team
- The Blog Battles
- 2023–24 NBA Season
- Personal News
- One More Thing
GREAT FALLS TEAM:
The Montana Senior Vote Action Fund sent a flyer called “Our Great Falls Team” that promotes Casey Schreiner for Mayor and Shannon Wilson for City Commission. Earlier, the Montana Rural Voters Action Fund sent a flyer promoting Schreiner.
There will probably be more flyers hitting the mailboxes in Great Falls as we get closer to the November 7 election.
I think the Mayor’s race may be the most interesting as two of the candidates may take votes from each other and a third candidate could end up winning because of it. There are four candidates for Mayor: Casey Schreiner, Joe McKenney, Cory Reeves, and Abby Brown.
Check out the two flyers FRONT BACK FRONT BACK.
You can check out a sample ballot for the municipal election HERE.
By the way, I hope you will join me in voting “NO” on the Public Safety Mill Levy and “NO” on the General Obligation Bond. These two measures will increase our taxes significantly – we can’t afford higher taxes.
THE BLOG BATTLES:
The battle between the left-leaning What The Funk 406 blog and the right-leaning E-City Beat blog continues.
It all kind of started with a Facebook post from October 3 from What The Funk 406:
Turns out, despite making money off of paid advertising, E City Beat was NOT registered as a business in Montana. Don’t worry, we solved that.
What The Funk blog now owns both E City Beat and Electric City Beat. We’ve advised Tryon and Phil Faccenda that they are using OUR registered business name and must immediately desist.
The Editor-in-Chief of E-City Beat, Philip M. Faccenda, has a post up at E-City Beat titled, “Why Are Local Dems Trying To Eliminate Freedom Of Speech In Great Falls?”
Faccenda writes:
WTF406 is a far left opinion blog run by Cascade County Democratic Central Committee Chair Helena Lovick and CCDCC former/current precinct committee person Jasmine Taylor.
Faccenda also warns:
Someone should inform Lovick and Taylor that E-City Beat will not be silenced no matter how hard they try, and that an expensive and lengthy legal action may be forthcoming if they continue.
I guess we should get the popcorn ready!
2023–24 NBA SEASON:
The 2023-24 NBA regular season starts today. The regular season ends on April 14, 2024. I was notified by DirecTV that I was being provided the NBA League Pass for free for the whole season, so I am kind of excited about being able to watch the games I want this season.
This is also the time of year for the famed “Sports Equinox” to happen. A Sports Equinox occurs when the four major leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL) play on the same day.
I believe it will happen on October 30, 2023.
Is this a great country or what?
PERSONAL NEWS:
I will be away from blogging for a few days because I am having outpatient surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and other problems in my left arm. I fell a few months ago and have not had full use of my left arm since then. Hopefully, the surgeon can repair it and I can get back to using both arms and get off the pain meds!
ONE MORE THING:
One minute you are young and fun. The next minute you get excited about a crock pot. –Pinterest

Got an email from a Judge Jerry Lynch who says he is running for Chief Justice of the MT Supreme Court.
His website doesn’t say much about him but the part about it I do like is that the browser tab, where it shows the site’s HTML page title, says “Judge Jerry Lunch”.
I’m automatically in favor of any lunch.

😂 haha.
Best wishes for a quick and full recovery, Jackie!
So there’s going to be an expensive and lengthy legal action over someone registering a business name that someone else neglected to register, is there?
“Yer honor, we are suing on the grounds of we’re sloppy and idiots to boot, and ask you to rule in our favor. Thank you.”
Ms. Taylor really did them a favor, though. That little checkmark thing ECB subsequently added to make their blog name unique is shorthand for “off”, I’ve been told.
Hope your surgery goes smoothly and you are back at it soon.
You’ll be all better soon. I’ll miss your posts.
Thank you!
