The Monday Memo

Hello, friends! Today is Monday, September 25, 2023, and here are the topics on which I am providing commentary:

  • Sheehy Campaigns
  • Federal Shutdown
  • Major League Baseball
  • Monday Night Football
  • One More Thing

SHEEHY CAMPAIGNS:

The following headline caught my attention, “Montana Republican Senate candidate campaigns in Watford City.” My first thought was, “Where is Watford City? After doing some checking I found out that it’s in North Dakota. Yes, North Dakota.

KFYR reported that Tim Sheehy, businessman, and former Navy SEAL, spoke at the North Dakota Petroleum Council Annual Meeting Wednesday.

You know, if you’re new to Montana like Sheehy is, and you get out in eastern Montana, the darn GPS might lead you in the wrong direction and you might end up in North Dakota. I heard he took his plane on this trip, so who knows what happened. Maybe he typed in $$ for his coordinates and ended up in Watford City.

I guess Sheehy was looking for money, not votes during this little trip. The money he raised from North Dakota Petroleum Council members spends just like Montana money.

FEDERAL SHUTDOWN:

It’s looking more and more like the Federal Government may shutdown if they don’t come to an agreement this week. Saturday, September 30, is the deadline.

If the government does shutdown, it looks like the fault will fall on the Republicans, especially the far-right ones in the U.S. House. Even our own hardliner, U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale (R-MT) is getting some ink. The Associated Press (AP) reported:

But in a sign of the deep divisions still ahead, one of the conservative holdouts, Rep. Matt Rosendale, R-Mont., walked past the McCarthy allies’ news conference at the Capitol, telling reporters he remained firm in his position.
Asked if he was worried about a potential shutdown, Rosendale said: “Life is going to go on.”

Yes, ol’ Matt is correct. Life will go on, and with the Republicans screwing up while being in charge of the U.S. House, they may not get another chance to be in the majority for a few years.

The AP tells us what will happen if there is a shutdown HERE.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:

This is the last week of Major League Baseball. It appears it will be exciting as there are still races for the wildcard spots.

At the other end of the standings, the Oakland Athletics will probably take the crown as the worst team in baseball. As of Monday morning, they have a record of 48 wins and 108 losses. The Athletics are followed by my Kansas City Royals with a 54/102 record.

I guess as a Royals fan, being out of the race before summer starts gave me more time to do other things.

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

Heads up – there are two, yes TWO, Monday Night Football games again tonight!

Is this a great country or what?

The Eagles and the Buccaneers play at 5:15 Mountain time on ABC. The Rams and Bengals play at 6:15 Mountain time on ESPN.

I will have more about football later this week. I want to brag about going 10-0 in the college football pigskin pick contest!

ONE MORE THING:

When you come to a point where you have no need to impress anybody, your freedom will begin. -Unknown

## HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEK ##
