We made it! Today is Friday, September 22, 2023, and here are the topics that caught my eye:
- Tester & Robocalls
- Free COVID Tests
- Religious, Spiritual Or Both
- One More Thing
TESTER & ROBOCALLS:
The headline of U.S. Senator Jon Tester’s (D-MT) press release got my attention:
TESTER RAILS AGAINST ROBOCALLS AND PRESSES BIDEN ADMINISTRATION OFFICIALS TO ACT
Tester talked more about robocalls in the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee hearing saying, “It’s unfair. It’s deceptive. It’s annoying. They’re crooks. I don’t know if you guys assess the penalties or the FCC, assess the penalties, but I would make sure they don’t have a dime left in their bank account.”
As the great Lee Corso says on ESPN College Game Day, “Not so fast my friend!”
Back in 2005, Jon Tester, who was President of the Montana Senate, was running for U.S. Senate and he had a different view about robocalls::
Lee Newspapers reports:
If you think a law’s unconstitutional, ignore it. Defy it. Flout it. Take the law into your own hands.
These are the weird messages coming from two otherwise law-abiding Montanans, state Auditor John Morrison and state Senate President Jon Tester. They are the top Democrats trying to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Conrad Burns in 2006.
Both Morrison and Tester admitted to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle last week they are soliciting donations for their respective campaigns through prerecorded telephone messages, despite a 1991 state law specifically forbidding the practice.
“It’s a free speech issue,” Tester told the Chronicle.
It’s funny how views change when it is campaign season…
FREE COVID TESTS:
Heads-up – I saw a report from Axios that said the Biden administration is reopening a program mailing free COVID-19 tests to households who request them and is investing $600 million into boosting test manufacturing.
You can start ordering your tests on September 25, which is Monday. Click HERE to get your free tests.
Is this a great country or what?
RELIGIOUS, SPIRITUAL OR BOTH:
On my “About” page on this blog, I talk about religion a little saying:
I don’t like to debate religion because I feel religion is a personal decision. When I die, I am going to heaven. Are you? Everyone should have a relationship with Jesus Christ, period. (John 3:16)
I really enjoy studying religion and what the different religions believe. When I saw this new Gallup poll about religion, I knew I wanted to share it with my readers:
Nearly half of Americans (47%) describe themselves as religious, another 33% say they are spiritual but not religious, and 2% volunteer they are “both.” Although the vast majority of U.S. adults have one of these orientations toward the nonphysical world, the 18% who say they are neither religious nor spiritual is twice the proportion Gallup measured when it first asked this question in 1999. Over the same period, the percentage identifying as religious has declined by seven percentage points.
Gallup also breaks down religion by political party and age.
As for the decline in being religious, I think one of the main reasons is politics. I’ve seen religious people basically say if you are a Democrat, don’t come to my church. Another reason for the decline is that we have religious leaders who have been caught in sinful situations and we have churches that have looked the other way when their leaders committed terrible acts against children. In my opinion, we have politicians who have used religion to get elected.

ONE MORE THING:
It’s okay if you don’t like me. Not everyone has good taste. -Unknown

Speaking of politicians who cynically use religion to win votes: Ex-president Trump.
New “rest of the story” about an event that was widely reported in 2019.
“The anecdote included in the story describes how Trump reacted to the severely wounded Army captain whom Milley selected to sing God Bless America at his 2019 welcome ceremony at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. Luis Avila, who served five combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, was left almost completely paralyzed by the detonation of an improvised explosive device in 2011.”
…
“After Avila’s performance, Trump walked over to congratulate him, but then said to Milley, within earshot of several witnesses, ‘Why do you bring people like that here? No one wants to see that, the wounded.’ Never let Avila appear in public again, Trump told Milley.”

Hey comments changed. I hate change.
I’ll see what’s up with it. Thanks, JmB
Don’t dislike me at first sight. Get to know me. I’m sure you’ll have a good reason to dislike me then.
Haha! Thanks, JmB
