Hello friends! Today is Friday, September 8, 2023, and here are the topics that I am providing commentary about today:
- Montana COPP
- NextDoor App
- Lions vs. Chiefs
- More Football
MONTANA COPP:
There’s a lot you can learn from visiting the Montana Commissioner of Political Practices (COPP) website. There’s a section called “Attribution Information” which tells candidates:
All election and electioneering communications are legally required to include attribution that identifies the entity that paid for the communication.
The election season is ramping up, so knowing the rules and abiding by the rules is a good thing!
NEXTDOOR APP:
I’ve had the Nextdoor app for a year or so and enjoy it. It’s kind of like Facebook light. Nextdoor claims:
It’s where communities come together to greet newcomers, exchange recommendations, and read the latest local news. Where neighbors support local businesses and get updates from public agencies. Where neighbors borrow tools and sell couches. It’s how to get the most out of everything nearby. Welcome, neighbor.
There’s a lot of love on the App for the Great Falls area. I’m just kidding. There are hateful people on this App, too, and some Nextdoor “lawyers.” There are also some great discussions about taxes and levies.
The Atlantic did a story a few years ago about Nextdoor and it’s worth the read. Click HERE to read it.
You can check it out HERE.
LIONS VS. CHIEFS:
The Detroit Lions went into Kansas City Thursday night and ruined the unveiling of the Super Bowl banner for the Chiefs. The Lions won 21-20. Make no mistake about it, the Lions are a good team. I’m excited to see how their season goes.
As for the Chiefs, I guess it’s better to lose the first game of the season than the last, but this one stings. Chiefs’ wide receiver Kadarius Toney dropped the ball several times and one drop led to a pick-six. Chiefs’ defensive lineman Chris Jones is sitting out trying to get a massive contract extension. Jones has one year left on his contract, so in my mind he should be playing, not holding out. Players who do this rank very low on my scale.
The other troubling thing is that Arrowhead Stadium holds about 80,000 fans. Many of the seats are used up by season ticket holders, but there was too much Detroit Lion blue in the stadium for my liking. That means several Chiefs fans gave up their seats to make a buck and missed the unveiling of the Super Bowl banner. This is detestable.
The Chiefs play again on September 17 in Jacksonville. This won’t be an easy game. The Chiefs had better have their crap together, or they could be 0-2 very quickly.

MORE FOOTBALL:
There are a few college games that interest me this weekend…
Nebraska plays at Colorado, and we’ll see if there’s a letdown for Coach Prime’s Colorado Buffaloes after their big win over TCU. Texas plays at Alabama and both teams are ranked, so I’m thinking this will be a good one.
As for Montana State, they play at South Dakota State. The Montana Grizzlies play at Utah Tech.
The NFL has its first full Sunday of games, so I will be overdosing on football for a few days.

This is a must read. It has very much to do with our situation here in Montana.

Football season came in like a lion this year!
Haha. Yes it did. -JmB
Mary, do you know which former Steeler players don’t know who they are or where they are? Or, the dead ones C.T.E. diagnosis rate ?
Jack Lambert may be the exception. He’s my age and still coaching young guys in football. Seems to still have his marbles. He’s a great guy.
But one good hit and they’re finished, even at the high school level. But how do you dissuade kids from playing who love the game and are very good at it? I wish I knew. I try to steer my grandkids to basketball. They play that too but go for scholarships in football. I’ve seen lots of career ending injuries even at the high school level. Even fatalities. It was different when I played fifty-five years ago. I can never remember anyone getting seriously hurt.
Sean O’Malley is riding pretty high now just like Todd Foster did during his hey day. I remember all attention Todd got back then and he deserved it. Not much about him now except his C.T.E. battle. Sugar O might give his future some thought.
Here’s a recent story about Foster:

It is just that I feel for Foster, pro boxing has no retirement benefits. Football does.
Larry, I have an answer to your questions. Get rid of football that is paid for with our tax dollars. Simple answer really. Reason is called reason because it is based on facts and evidence. The evidence is pretty straightforward and getting more persuasive.
I grew up in Pittsburgh. Every seat in the stadium was a Steeler season ticket holder. If a seat was empty for a game the owner of the seat was given the what for when he or she returned for a game. It was expected the seat would be given to a die hard Steeler fan if the holder was unable to attend. The tickets were often the last item to be settled in divorce cases. I worked at three different car dealerships & each got 10 tickets from a player in exchange for the use of a nice fancy new car during the season. I was able to attend a lot of games-usually a freezing Monday night game when the wusses feared the cold. Fun times!
Sorry your team lost.
