Hello faithful readers! Today is Wednesday, August 30, 2023, and here are the topics that I am providing independent commentary about today:
- Checks in the Mail, Except…
- New Police Officers
- Public Schools
- One More Thing
CHECKS IN THE MAIL, EXCEPT…
Earlier this week, I wrote about Montana property tax rebates being sent by paper check through the mail beginning on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023.
To reduce the risk of fraud by scammers, the Montana Department of Revenue (DOR) announced it had removed the option for people to receive the property tax rebate by direct deposit.
Like many people, I watched my mailbox closely for the paper check. On Tuesday, my rebate check was deposited electronically.
According to the Montana Department of Revenue website, “Once we’ve processed your rebate claim, we will send you a check to the mailing address on your form.”
Maybe I will get both!
You can review the rebate information at the Montana Department of Revenue website HERE.
NEW POLICE OFFICERS:
KRTV in Great Falls reported that four new police officers were sworn into the Great Falls Police Department on Tuesday. While doing some research, I saw they hired two new officers in April, too.
These hires were done WITHOUT the public safety levy being passed.
Congratulations to the new officers and thank you for your service!
PUBLIC SCHOOLS:
Many public schools across Montana started classes last week or will be starting classes this week, so keep an eye out for the little ones crossing the street!
Please pray that our students and teachers have a safe year.
ONE MORE THING:
I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday, and the nurse asked me my height and weight. I responded with, six feet three inches and two hundred and fifteen pounds.
She smiled and rolled her eyes at me…

I filed my rebate request the same day your wife filed yours, and yet I got a paper check. Showed up in this a.m. mail. You must be a celebrity.
Either way, yay! Now I have money to cover the increase in property tax I will see this Fall, which will occur thanks in no small part to a very large increase in the various State school equalization line items after our politicians chose not to address the property tax rate to offset the big property valuation jumps.
And then this coming March or April I can declare my $675 as additional income on my income tax return. Our Republican legislators and governor … what kind and benevolent masters to let us at least get a whiff of their money as it passes briefly through our hands.
Thanks. Good analysis.
BTW, Lee Newspapers has a story to make taxpayers worry even more:

And as we head into a new school year, I think it’s important to remember that we have a complete imbecile heading up the Office of Public Instruction. I did my best to research how many elected officials throughout the country still believed the bizarre hoax that there are litter boxes in schools. What I found was that every single person that had promoted this hoax has finally retracted their accusations……..except one. In the entire country! Our very own Elsie. She is an embarrassment and incompetent. She must be held accountable come election time. Montana, the litter box capital of the country! MAGA.
