Thursday Thoughts

Hello friends! Today is Thursday, August 24, 2023, and here are the topics that I am commentating about today:

  • Zooey Zephyr Protests
  • GOP Presidential Debate
  • One More Thing

ZOOEY ZEPHYR PROTESTS:

The Montana Free Press (MTFP) is reporting that the criminal cases against the seven people arrested during protests in support of Missoula Democratic Rep. Zooey Zephyr in the latter days of the 68th Legislature were dismissed this week after Lewis and Clark County prosecutors filed motions to drop the charges, according to court documents and lawyers for the defendants.

That was the right thing to do. The Republican leaders in the State House of Representatives did not treat Zephyr, who is the first transgender female legislator in state history, fairly. They overacted to her remarks on the House floor when she said Republican lawmakers would have blood on their hands if they backed a bill to ban gender-affirming care for transgender minors in Montana.

What happened is the Republicans in the state House of Representatives gave Zephyr a significant boost in publicity and made Montana look like it is being led by a bunch of backward rednecks. Applause to Zephyr for educating us and for standing up for what is right.

GOP PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE:

Fox News hosted the first GOP Presidential Debate, and it was a trainwreck.

Just a few minutes into the debate, Fox News moderators Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum lost control of the debate. Participants were talking over each other and it was several minutes into the debate before all the participants were able to answer questions.

Finally, about an hour and 40 minutes into the debate, Baier announced that they needed to get control of the debate, but by then it was too late.

The former President, Donald Trump, did not participate. He has a commanding lead in the polls. Trump won the debate without being there. The other winner was Joe Biden.

For some reason, the new kid on the block, tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, received a lot of attention from the other candidates. He appeared to get under former Vice President Mike Pence’s skin a few times. Pence seemed to want to be the tough guy a few times, interrupting people and being told to wait a few times by the moderators.

Ramaswamy’s stock probably rose after the debate.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is a distant second behind Trump in the polls, had several prepared responses. He did say he would send our military into Mexico to fight drug cartels and that he would have drug smugglers killed when they crossed the border.

Overall, I think former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley did the best. A poll on Drudge today shows Ramaswamy as the winner, followed by Haley, DeSantis, and Christie.

ONE MORE THING:

Dear Haters: I have so much more for you to be mad at. Just be patient. -Unknown

  1. Since all the GOPer candidates were trying to out-trump trumpsky, surely at least one or two should have thought to glue a dead weasel to their head. That would have won over at least some of the maga-t viewers.
