The Monday Memo

Hello, Friends! Today is Monday, August 14, 2023, and here are the topics I am commenting about today:

  • Great Falls Library Levy
  • More Polling
  • Sports

GREAT FALLS LIBRARY LEVY:

I learned over the weekend due to reporting from The Electric that two Cascade County voters have filed a lawsuit against the City of Great Falls over the June 6 library levy election. Beth Cummings and Dena Johnson filed a petition to annul and set aside or void the election in district court on Aug. 4.

The Electric reports that Cummings and Johnson argue that the ballot language and dollar amount of associated mills was incorrect.

There is a series of other issues in the lawsuit that The Electric does a great job in dispelling.

I doubt this lawsuit will get very far. It seems like the old saying “throw everything against the wall and hope something will stick.”

I am looking forward to the increased services at the public library. The approval of the library levy is good for Great Falls.

MORE POLLING:

I took part in a poll from Research Polls on Saturday. I was asked to participate via text message.

They asked me about President and the U.S. Senate race in Montana. They asked if there was a Republican primary between Matt Rosendale and Tim Sheehy, who I would pick. I was asked about the general election. Jon Tester versus Tim Sheehy and Jon Tester versus Matt Rosendale.

For President, they wanted to know my Republican choice and provided a long list of the candidates and possible candidates who might run. I believe they asked what my choice would be between Joe Biden and Donald Trump and Joe Biden and Ron DeSantis.

SPORTS:

Did you catch any sports this weekend? I watched some Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fights on ESPN and Showtime. I watched some boxing on Showtime. I even watched the playoff hole in the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The NFL Network showed several preseason games including my Chiefs, who lost a close one to the Saints on Sunday.

High school fall sports teams are starting to practice, and College Football games are right around the corner. In the NFL, they currently have 90 players on the roster, but they will need to be down to 53 players by August 29. The teams have two preseason games left to evaluate players.

This is an exciting time of year for sports.

  1. Same old anti-library Liberty and Values MT cast of characters, still trying to prosecute their anti-woke anti-library agenda behind a tax burden smokescreen.

Failed miserably to convince voters on the merits ahead of the election, so now hope to convince a judge there was something fishy and misleading in the ballot language. Not misleading to them personally mind you, because they already voted NO, but possibly misleading to some sorry others far less intelligent than the plaintiffs.

But just for arguments’ sake, wouldn’t it be interesting if it somehow turned out that the Cascade County Elections Office really did screw something up in the ballot language or the notice. The same elections office that was distributing anti-library levy materials out of the County annex.
