The Wednesday Read

Here are the topics for the last day of May:

  • Public Testing
  • Rosendale
  • Trump slams McEnany
  • Jewel’s Anthem
  • One More Thing

PUBLIC TESTING:

Just a heads-up to let you know the Cascade County Elections Department will perform the public testing of the tabulating machine in the Exhibition Hall at Expo Park on June 1, 2023, at 1pm. This test is for the Great Falls Public Library levy vote on June 6.

I hope that Sandra Merchant, Cascade County Clerk and Recorder, has studied for the test more than she did last time!

The “testing” reminds me of the story I heard about animal testing. A student asked his professor, “Why is animal testing a bad idea?” The professor replied, “Because the animals get nervous and give all the wrong answers.”

ROSENDALE:

Republican U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale (MT-02) has announced that he is opposed to the debt ceiling increase. Here is his statement:

The D.C. Swamp has proposed the largest debt ceiling increase in our nation’s history, adding $4 trillion to the existing $31 trillion national debt,” said Rep. Rosendale. “The Fiscal Irresponsibility Act fails to cut spending and continues to fund the Democrats’ and Biden Administration’s radical agenda. It is frankly an insult to the American people to support a piece of legislation that continues to put our country’s financial future at risk. Montanans did not send me to Washington to support business as usual, which is why I will be voting AGAINST the Fiscal Irresponsibility Act.”

Most of the extreme MAGA members of the U.S. House are reportedly against the bill. Rosendale joins Representatives like Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz, and Andy Biggs in opposing the increase. You can view a list of probable “NO” votes HERE. The House will probably vote on the bill later today.

TRUMP SLAMS MCENANY:

I kind of feel sorry for ex-President Trump’s former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany after Trump accused her of providing the “wrong” poll numbers during an appearance on Fox News. (Source)

Here is what Trump posted on Truth Social:

Kayleigh “Milktoast” McEnany just gave out the wrong poll numbers on FoxNews. I am 34 points up on DeSanctimonious, not 25 up. While 25 is great, it’s not 34. She knew the number was corrected upwards by the group that did the poll. The RINOS & Globalists can have her. FoxNews should only use REAL Stars!!!

McEnany was Trump’s press secretary for about two years and defended him and his lies vigorously. Now, he attacks her. That must feel like a punch in the gut for her after she was so loyal to him. I’m sure she knows Trump better than most and realizes he is a scumbag who will attack anyone to help himself.

Keep your chin up, Kayleigh – we’ve all had bosses who were assholes…

JEWEL’S ANTHEM:

Jewel performed “The Star Spangled Banner” before the Indy 500 Sunday and it raised quite a stir. I listened to her acoustic rendition of the anthem and thought it was pretty good.
I even tweeted my approval, saying, “Nice job by Jewel.”

Fox News said it was “disrespectful.” Some said the rendition “left fans divided.” Watch it HERE.

I think the best rendition of the National Anthem was done in 1991 by Whitney Houston at the Super Bowl. Later it was revealed that it was lip-synced. It was still the greatest in my book.

ONE MORE THING:

Rainbows in a Target won’t turn straight kids gay any more than mayonnaise in a Target will turn Black people white. – @middleageriot

  1. I liked Jewels’ rendition too. It was more than fifty years ago Jose Feliciano go them all stirred up with his vocal stylings. The tune came from an old English drinking song and the words including “land of the free,” were written by Key, a slave holder. Whitney was my favorite too, I didn’t know she lip synced.

  2. Good Morning Jackie,
Glad you are doing well with your health issues, but your later posting is playing hob with my morning routine.

Rosendale’s statement proves once again that he is incompetent to be a member of the House. If he does not understand the difference between the debt ceiling and the deficit, he should not be making financial decisions for the nation. His positions are consistently contrary to the interests of Montanans. He is too absorbed in the grift of being an outspoken RWNJ to jump in against Tester (a real farmer)

On the other hand Steve Daines is full on in support of Trump and is in fact leading the Senate Repubs on the 2024 elections. Totally in the bag of the Grifter in Chief. One still wonders why he spent the Fourth of July in Moscow a few years ago. It would benefit us all to know how much Russian money is being funneled to him through the NRA.

Unfortunately, there is no way to decide who is the worst elected politician right now. Gianforte is now showing his true colors. He really doesn’t like you veterans. A sad time to be a Montanan for sure.

    • Rosendale seems to think that we Montanans don’t care if his personal extreme partisan politics leads to default and tanks our IRAs, slashes our Social Security and veterans’ benefits, and puts employers out of business. Actually we DO care about that.

And we are not so dumb that we don’t remember that Republicans did not give a flying fig about ballooning the deficits and running up the national debt when a Republican was president. $8 trillion in new debt and 3 rubber stamp debt ceiling increases under the Republican Trump, including 5 separate Covid stimulus programs totaling $3.8 trillion in 2020 alone as he tried to buy himself a 2nd term.

      • It’s hard to believe he is that ignorant about the debt limit. I don’t know who he listens to, but it’s not your typical Montanan. Thanks, JmB

      • Despite all the BS you rightly point out, I think Rosendale is more concerned about feathering his own nest. The big tell is his support of eliminating the funding for purchasing land for conservation purposes. This is clearly contrary to the interests and wishes of most true Montanans. But what I suspect is the motivation for Rosendale’s support is to cut out competion for the big developers wanting to buy up and privatize our lands for development. There simply is not enough land for the next Rock Creek Cattle Company, Yellowstone Club, Moonlight Basin etc. if the public gets to own and conserve it. While Rosendale clearly does not understand his job, he does know how to use its power to benefit himself and his developer buddies. Unfortunately, I just don’t see how he won’t continue to be elected with the rest of the Repubs who in the Legislative session both beat up every day Montanans in the pocketbook and made us a national laughing stock. Right now only the Supreme Court is holding us together. Watch for the furious attack on the Supreme Court in the interim. Tough times in paradise for sure.
