The Wednesday Read

Quote of the Day:

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. ― George Carlin

Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:

  • Voting By Mail – MT
  • Bumble Bee
  • SCOTUS
  • Cindy McCain

VOTING BY MAIL – MT:

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen heard arguments in Missoula on a motion by President Donald Trump’s campaign and other Republican groups who want to overturn an option that Gov. Steve Bullock gave counties to hold the election by mail to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Christensen said he would rule quickly.

My Prediction: The Republicans will lose in U.S. District Court. It will be appealed.

It was also reported by the AP that the Montana complaint was filed by Donald J. Trump for President, the Republican National Committee, the Republican Senatorial Committee, and the Montana Republican State Central Committee. They argued that mailed ballots are subject to fraud.

I hope someone brought up the fact that many Montanans (including me) vote by mail already, and we just held an all-mail primary election in June. I have not heard of any fraud. The turnout for the Montana primary set records.

What Trump and company are trying to do is suppress voting. That is it in simple terms.

BUMBLE BEE:

At a rally in Pittsburgh Tuesday night, President Donald Trump said protesters were throwing cans of tuna at police:

“They go out and buy tuna fish and soup. You know that right? … Because they throw it, they throw it, it’s the perfect weight — tuna fish. They can really rip it, right? And that hits you. No, it’s true. Bumble Bee brand tuna.”

NBC News reports that there have been no media reports of police being hit with cans of tuna.

I’m betting that Donald Trump has never touched a can of tuna to determine if it is a “perfect weight.”

After Trump’s remarks were reported, Bumble Bee was soon trending on Twitter. The official account of Bumble Bee tweeted, “Eat em. Don’t throw em.”

Our President is a moron.

SCOTUS:

Monday evening Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., announced that Senate Republicans have enough votes to confirm a replacement for late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg before the Nov. 3 election. (Fox News)

Earlier on Monday, Rush Limbaugh told his listeners that the U.S. Senate should skip the hearings for the Ginsburg replacement:

“I want the Judiciary Committee — that could be great if it were skipped. We don’t need to open that up for whatever length of time, so that whoever this nominee is can be Kavanaugh’d, or Borked, or Thomas’d. Because that’s what it’s going to be, especially when it’s not even required.”

We’ll see how much clout ol’ Rush has with the Mitch McConnell and Graham. I think Limbaugh and Sean Hannity advise President Trump quite often. If they do hold hearings, it will be interesting to see what shenanigans the Democrats pull to delay the process.

There will be shenanigans. Oh yeah.

I suggest we start watching 1950’s shows so when the U.S. Supreme Court becomes as conservative as the court from the 1950s, we are prepared.

CINDY MCCAIN:

Cindy McCain, the widow of the late John McCain, endorsed Democrat Joe Biden for president Tuesday. The AP reported that it was a rebuke of President Donald Trump by the widow of the GOP’s 2008 nominee.

I doubt anyone is surprised. Trump said John McCain was not a war hero. Trump said of McCain, “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.” Trump also reportedly called those who died in war “losers” and “suckers.”

Trump does not deserve the vote of any veteran because of those comments.

  1. Our Stable Genius president exposes just how insidious and deep rooted the left wing conspiracy against him truly is. The reason discerning anarchists everywhere choose Bumble Bee tuna over much cheaper canned meat alternatives or even freebies like rocks is that Bumble Bee opposed his tarriffs, while competitors like StarKist supported them. The truth is out there.

  2. good blog, On the Senate, so much for deliberation. Yes, evidence shows president Trump said disgusting disparaging remarks about dead combat soldiers. Those of us who experienced combat or, were even in the miltary, realize what a great part luck had in survival. That makes their sacrifice even more valuable, more important. Please disregard the circumstances of the conflict and think of the sacrifice.
What is wrong with the 30 or 40 percent of the electorate who support President Trump? Can they not see where he is leading us ? I can only conclude stupidity or an over whelming racist white-supremacist attitude. Vote Democratic across the ballot. Save our state and the country. Please do your part. You can take it back during the next election !
