Whenever you’re faced with an explanation of what’s going on in Washington, the choice between incompetence and conspiracy, always choose incompetence. – Charles Krauthammer
Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!
If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.
Topics that I am providing commentary about today include Melania’s Texas Trip, Melania’s jacket, Online Sales Tax, Trump “as a person,” and One More Thing!
Melania’s Texas Trip:
I was happy to hear that First Lady Melania Trump was heading to Texas to see some of the detained migrant children there and visit with officials. I thought she might see it from a different perspective and maybe help end the madness.
It all went pretty well I thought until she donned a jacket with the message “I really don’t care do u” on the back of it.
What the hell is that supposed to mean? Who the hell is that for?
The President said on Twitter it “refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!”
But there is some good news! The New York Times reported:
The jacket, after all, which is reportedly sold out and is not from the current season, retailed for $39. It may be the least expensive garment the first lady has worn while representing the administration.
I once thought that Melania was one of the more intelligent members of the Trump family. Writing a silly message on a jacket like a middle school child makes her look like an idiot.
Online Sales Tax:
I was disappointed with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision this week that said states can compel retailers to collect sales taxes even if they don’t have a physical presence in the state. (CNN)
Montana does not have a sales tax. I like it like that. I hate it when I go to a state that has a sales tax and the price marked is different than what you pay at the register.
Lee Newspapers reported that Montana’s U.S. Sens. Steve Daines, a Republican, and Jon Tester, a Democrat, both released statements opposing the ruling Thursday, as did Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock.
Good for them. Tester and Daines are in a position to do something about it. Let’s hope they do. Thousands of small businesses in Montana are counting on them.
Trump “as a person”
Gallup reported that thirty-six percent of U.S. adults have a positive image of Donald Trump “as a person,” while 55% have a negative opinion of him. Nearly three-quarters of Republicans view Trump positively as a person while only 7% of Democrats do.
I think it is pretty amazing how Republicans have fallen in love with Trump.
One More Thing:
Sad news – once again I did not get drafted in the NBA Draft last night.
Rumors say that I suffer from old age and I can’t jump…
