What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. – James 4:14 (NIV)
In the grand scheme of things, the verse (above) from the Book of James is pretty cold-hearted. It is like a punch in the stomach.
It does not say if you are important or rich or poor or well-known. It just says “You” are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
That means all of us.
Another verse that hits believers hard is this one:
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. – Proverbs 27:1 (NIV)
Life has a way of taking our plans and putting them in the blender and mixing them up.
As I have become older and started to understand that I am not invincible, I try to thank God for each day I’ve been given. Sometimes I do it before my feet hit the floor in the morning – because I “do not know what a day may bring.”
Have a great week!
