Caught My Eye…

If you don’t think every day is a good day, just try missing one. – Cavett Robert

Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!

If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.

Topics that I am providing commentary on today include the Paris Climate Agreement & Trump, America’s Most Misspelled Words, REAL ID, the military, covfefe, and much more!

With President Donald Trump announcing in a rambling speech that the United States will be pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement, the USA joins Syria and Nicaragua in not taking part in the global agreement. (NBC News)

So, the countries that support the agreement number 195, and those countries that oppose now number three. Trump did say he would attempt to re-negotiate a fair deal for the United States.

In his speech Trump said:

As President, I have one obligation, and that obligation is to the American people. The Paris Accord would undermine our economy, hamstring our workers, weaken our sovereignty, impose unacceptable legal risks, and put us at a permanent disadvantage to the other countries of the world. It is time to exit the Paris Accord and time to pursue a new deal that protects the environment, our companies, our citizens, and our country.

Many on the right loved his decision and many on the left hated it.

The Paris Climate Agreement was voluntary and not binding. That kind of makes Trump’s announcement that we were exiting the Paris Accord seem silly.

It’s not the end of the world, but the speech did take Russia off the radar screen for a few hours on Thursday.

America’s Most Misspelled Words:

Google Trends released a map of the most misspelled words by state in 2017.

Google says that Montanans searched “how to spell …” “surprise” the most during Jan. 1, 2017, to April 30, 2017.

I bet if the search covered until the end of May for Montana, the words would have been “body slam” and/or “Gianforte.”

People in Wisconsin searched for how to spell “Wisconsin” the most during that time, which is pretty funny – and tells me a lot about the state.

In my least-favorite state, Iowa, the word searched how to spell the most was “C-A-T.”

I am just kiddin about Iowa – except for the part about it being my least favorite state.

After all the whining and crying about federal overreach and telling Montanans they would not comply with the REAL ID Act, the Associated Press reported that Montana Governor Steve Bullock has signed a bill giving Montanans the option to buy a state driver’s license or identification card that can be used to board flights and access federal facilities.

In other words, that ID will be in compliance with the REAL ID Act.

Freedom is not free…

Air Force – Yes!

Gallup polling reported recently that Americans hold all branches of the U.S. military in high regard, but that does not necessarily translate into a desire to see their loved ones enlist. Fewer than half would be likely to recommend joining the Coast Guard (48%), Marines (43%) or Army (41%) to their children or grandchildren, while a majority would be likely to recommend the Navy (53%) or Air Force (64%).

Air Force – the great way of life!

This week the President’s sent a partial tweet in which he wrote, “Despite the constant negative press covfefe…”

Nobody really knows what “covfefe” is and when asked, the White House Press Secretary said, “The president and a small group of people know exactly what he meant.”

Although I don’t know anyone in the small group of people, I do know some funny “covfefe” memes for you to enjoy. Click HERE and click HERE.

  1. The Koch Bros. own Wisconsin lock, Scott Walker and barrel. The current state of Wisconsin is what you get when you let rightwingnuts and gLibertarians inter-breed.

    • Barry – Haha. Thanks man. When he appears in court, it will be in the news again and when he goes to DC it will be in the news again. In fact, it will be with him forever. -JmB
