The Sunday Message

My dear friend, I know your soul is doing fine, and I pray that you are doing well in every way and that your health is good.  –3 John 1:2 (NCV)

Emergency rooms are interesting places. You see all types of people – young and old, rich and poor, happy and sad.

I had the “opportunity” to visit an emergency room recently and observe the people who visit there and the people who work there. This was probably just a typical weeknight – with bleeding, chest pain, abdominal pain, and people with other health issues walking through the door.

In emergency rooms, after you are initially looked at by medical personnel, plan to wait. Then wait some more, especially if you are going to be admitted to the hospital. Patiently waiting is apparently not a strong trait for some people.

Being in an emergency situation also offers a time to grow closer to God. Someone once said, “There are no atheists in foxholes” and that may be true. That saying may hold true for emergency rooms, too.

Maybe you think that since you have not prayed as often as you should, the “line” between you and God is shut off and beyond repair. That’s not true – the prayer line is always open – so make the call.  God is waiting.

Isaiah 65:24 (NIV)
Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.
