Today is the last day of March – YES! Spring has to be here soon, right? Today is also opening day (sort of) of Major League Baseball (go Royals), and today is (sort of) the final day to sign up for the Affordable Care Act, which is also called ObamaCare. I mentioned last week that there are 17 ways you can get an extension. You can read the list HERE.
This morning, the White House website had a countdown clock that said “Open Enrollment for 2014 Coverage Ends in 16 days.” This is confusing because on the same page viewers were told to sign up by March 31. The minutes were going by like seconds on the clock.
Tuesday is also April Fool’s Day, so beware.
The Obamacare roll-out has been a mess with the website having problems. I heard it went down for a few minutes this morning. Plus, the legislative process that gave us this law was not the greatest, but it has been the law for over four years. It withstood a Supreme Court challenge. The rally call for the GOP is to repeal it and several candidates and those running for reelection are staking their candidacies on that plan.
On Fox News Sunday, Senator Angus King (I-ME) seemed to school Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) about Obamacare, although Barrasso saying he thought the Obama administration was “cooking the books” in regard to the number of people who have signed up made several newspapers on Monday.
So far, officials claim over 6 million people have signed up for Obamacare – and the site “was receiving 1.5 million visitors a day last week, received about 2 million a day over the weekend.”
The Affordable Care Act can be improved. I’ve written before that Republicans and Democrats should work together to make the Affordable Care Act better for all, instead of holding vote after vote to repeal it.
If Obamacare is repealed in the future, we may have a mess on our hands. Right now there are over six million reasons to ask our elected officials to work together to make it better.
