The Sunday Message

Psalm 100:1-2 (NLT)
Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.

There’s something about outdoor concerts that I enjoy. It does not matter if they are Christian, rock, metal, country, jazz, bluegrass – I enjoy them. Maybe it’s the fresh air and the sun shining down on the crowd, or maybe it’s seeing twilight come as the musicians play into the night.

I suspect if I had been a few years older, I would have made my way to Woodstock back in 1969 which, by the way, was wrapping up on this date about 44 years ago. I did make my way to several concerts across the Midwest in my youth, and I can safely say I have just about seen it all – and participated in most of it, too.

At these concerts, I go into people watcher mode. I can spend hours watching people at these events – seeing how they relate to each other and how the music affects them.

Music and singing are mentioned several times in the Bible. There’s no rule or biblical law that says one type of music praises God more than the other. I’ve attended churches where hymns were the preferred music accompanied by a piano and an organ. I’ve attended churches where drums, keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars were the instruments of choice.

They’re all good.

Basically it’s what is good for you and draws you closer to God.

So “Shout with joy to the Lord” and “Worship the Lord with gladness” and “Come before him, singing with joy.”

Have a great week!
