Caught My Eye…

It’s Friday and time for the first “Caught My Eye” of May! Thanks for stopping by!

You might be wondering, “What is ‘Caught My Eye?’” Well, it’s the weekly column where I take a quick look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. Often I throw in some sarcasm and poke fun at people just to make you smile.

Today I write about Brian “Almighty” Schweitzer, a new Executive Director, April Jobs report, Hotmail is dead, #Hashtags, Reese “I’m an American Citizen” Witherspoon, Birthdays, jail sucks, and much more!

Brian Almighty:

Former Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer is back in the spotlight again today. He was voted in as a board member of the Stillwater Mine after failing to takeover the company.  Although he is now a Board member, Schweitzer’s team of four did not gain complete control as shareholders re-elected four current members, making it an even split.

But with lemons, the former governor can make lemonade by telling folks he saved about 1600 jobs in Montana. The Almighty one did all that as a mere private citizen – probably before dinner, too.

There was quite a bit of affection shown to the former governor by the Montana press corps leading up to the failed takeover. The press corps apparently miss him roaming around the capitol. Schweitzer should look at that affection as a positive sign that he would have very few checks and balances from the fourth estate if he decides to jump in the race for the open senate seat in 2014.

Montana Democrats:

Andrea Marcoccio sent an e-mail introducing herself as the new Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. She told recipients “I am the daughter of a union mom who taught me that we are stronger together. My first organizing skills were learned standing next to her on a picket line at age five.”

I remember years ago when I stood with my union dad on a few picket lines and attended a few union meetings with him. Good memories…

The job of Executive Director of a political party is probably a lot like herding cats.

Jobs Report for April:

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, “Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 165,000 in April, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 7.5 percent.” This is a four-year low.

It seems as though these numbers are not as important as they were around election time…

Hotmail is Dead:

Wow. I forgot about Hotmail. I think I had an account there at one time. It is now dead and it has been replaced by Outlook.

Rest in Peace Hotmail…

No Hashtags:

The #NCAA has banned the use of Twitter #Hashtags on football fields. A NCAA Football Rules Committee Bulletin stated, “All other items, including social media designations such as URL’s and hashtags, are prohibited.”

Somebody has too much time on their hands…

Reese Witherspoon:

This dash cam video of her arrest will be a blockbuster hit! My favorite line, “I’m an American citizen … I’m allowed to stand on American ground.”

Sure you are Reese…sure you are…

Happy Birthday:

Frankie Valli of the “The Four Seasons” turns 79. My favorite song is “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” Enjoy it HERE.

Caught My Eye:

If you miss an edition of “Caught My Eye” you can scroll down on the right side of this page to “Categories” and click on the down arrow and select “Caught My Eye.” This is “Caught My Eye” number 144, so there are plenty to read!

Jail Sucks:

I guess it really does.  According to The Smoking Gun, a man from Florida was booked into jail for welfare fraud. No big deal there, but he was he was wearing a “Jail Sucks!” t-shirt, which makes it kind of funny.

See the photo and story HERE.

One More Thing:

Don’t forget to stretch…
