Camo Scarves, F-22s, & Shotguns

When a newspaper article starts with “In a chamber dotted with female legislators wearing new camo scarves” it, for some reason, gets my attention.

The camo scarves (from Nordstrom) were being worn by Alaska’s female legislators as they and their colleagues passed a piece of legislation that “declares that guns and ammunition possessed by Alaskans are exempt from federal gun laws. It also subjects federal agents to felony charges if they try to enforce any future federal ban on semi-automatic weapons or ammunition or enforce any new federal requirement for gun registration.”

Booyah!

I don’t follow Alaska state politics enough to know if they have declared the local County Sheriff to be the supreme law of the land yet. If not, here’s a draft they can use and just take out the word “Montana” and insert “Alaska” in its place.

I’ve mentioned that the Montana Legislature is a lot like a three-ring circus, but the Alaska Legislature is holding its own!

My favorite part of the story is about State Rep. Doug Isaacson, R-North Pole (that is not a joke), who said the Second Amendment lets citizens possess the same weapons as the military. Isaacson said, “Therefore, if the government can afford an F-22 [fighter aircraft], and I as a private citizen can afford to own an F-22, this article gives me the right to own exactly the same kind of armament that the federal government has.”

Double booyah!

I can hear the pitch to buy some military weaponry for the family. Sitting around the dinner table, the husband says, “Hey sweetie, Bill and Susan bought a M1 Abrams tank to protect their family and to take moose hunting. Can we get one? Please…”

The wife replies, “Sure honey, we need all the protection we can get because Obama is coming for our guns. By the way, the next time you take the snow machine to town would you pick up a couple camo scarves for me from Nordstrom – you know – the one our favorite legislators wear.”

State Representative Isaacson’s idea about the Second Amendment raises other concerns. Will patriots be able to take their tanks and planes into bars, public buildings, or on to college campuses? A person does have a right to defend themselves, right?

What about private citizens owning drones to protect us from Obama and the Feds? Oh my…

Finally, maybe the answer is that we should all just relax and buy a double barrel shotgun for protection like Vice President Joe Biden said the other day. Shotguns will solve all our personal protection problems according to the VP (watch the whole thing):
