Monday Morning Politics

Monday Morning Politics is brought to you by the number 1 today – there is just 1 day left until General Election Day! Whoop, whoop…

On Tuesday night (or early Wednesday morning) several people will have their hearts broken and several people will be extremely happy. You can bet on Tuesday and Wednesday we’ll hear stories about voter intimidation or voter fraud and voting machines messing up.

Montana Republicans might have one of their “video trackers” keep track of Governor Brian Schweitzer Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, so he can’t bully or intimidate voters like some folks feel he did in 2006…

Overall, the best thing you can do Tuesday night is follow me on Twitter @TheWesternWord! I will be tweeting the latest information from Montana and around the country.

Today in Monday Morning Politics I take a look at Rehberg resting, Senate polls, Rand Paul, TWW Polls, a Tax Loophole, the Romney Video, and much more!

U.S. Senate Montana:

Today in the Montana section of the Great Falls Tribune, readers found this headline, “Senate race hits final leg” and the sub-headline reads, “Tester rallies, Rehberg rests.”

Several news sources (Associated Press & Politico) reported that current Congressman and Senate candidate Denny Rehberg basically took the weekend off and did not have any public events over the weekend.

Why was this a big deal? Because it is abnormal for a candidate not to have a final push and give their closing argument. Does Team Rehberg have internal polling showing them far enough ahead (or behind) not to worry about it. Is the campaign out of money? Is Rehberg worn out or does he have an illness? During an interview on a Billings radio show last week, I thought Rehberg sounded a little tired and ticked off during the interview. There are so many questions…

A Mason-Dixon poll released this weekend showed Rehberg up by four. A Public Policy Poll had Tester up by two. Over at the Flathead Memo, James Connor says Tester’s odds of winning are 3:2. Read his column HERE.

Other Republicans, like Governor Candidate Rick Hill are making a final push and will be in Great Falls Monday (ironically at the Rehberg Victory Office 11:30-12:00) with statewide candidates Tim Fox, Derek Skees, and Brad Johnson.

And the Democrats are making a final push. Jon Tester, Steve Bullock, Kim Gillan, Denise Juneau, Pam Bucy, Linda McCullouch, Monica Lindeen, Max Baucus will be in Great Falls (Black Eagle Community Center at 4:30) on Monday for a Get Out the Vote Rally.

We’ll see how Rehberg taking a couple days off plays with the voters.

Rand Paul – Kingmaker:

The Rehberg Campaign was proud to announce that U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky (he is the son of former Presidential candidate Ron Paul) had endorsed Rehberg in the U.S. Senate race. They hope this endorsement will keep some of the far-right (Tea Party) folks from voting for third-party candidate, Libertarian Dan Cox.

According to the Washington Post, Rand Paul is also helping Missouri’s Todd “legitimate rape”Akin with a second ad buy.

As I have said many times, “It’s all about the next election in Washington, D.C.”

TWW Poll Results:

I did some “Who do you think…” polls over the weekend here at The Western Word (TWW). I asked, Who do you think will win President, U.S. Senate, Governor, U.S. House, Attorney General, and Secretary of State races. Wow, lots of people participated! Thank you!

The winners will be (according to TWW poll): President -Barack Obama, U.S. Senate -Jon Tester, Governor -Rick Hill, U.S. House -Kim Gillan, Secretary of State – Brad Johnson, and Attorney General -Pam Bucy.

The polls are now closed. Make sure you vote for real on Tuesday!

The Ol’ Tax Loophole:

Bloomberg News is reporting that “Romney Avoids Taxes via Loophole Cutting Mormon Donations” which might answer the questions about why Mitt Romney only wanted to release two years of tax returns.

Must be nice…

The Romney Video:

A few weeks ago conservatives jumped for joy when a video was released exclusively by The Daily Caller which reported, “then-presidential candidate Barack Obama tells an audience of black ministers, including the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, that the U.S. government shortchanged Hurricane Katrina victims because of racism.”

Now Politico is reporting, “A day before the election, a video that depicts a visibly angry Mitt Romney defending his faith has become a viral hit.” You can read the story HERE and watch the video HERE.
