Politics 2012: “Like”

With campaign season in full swing, it is fun to see how the candidates, their supporters, and their opponents are using social media sites, like Facebook, to get their message out.

We see the normal “Women for XXXX” and “Veterans for XXXX” “Students for XXXX” plus there are Facebook pages for several local and state-wide candidates just waiting for you to “Like” them – so get out there and explore!

Listed below are a few sites that I found interesting:

Dogs Against Romney” states that they are about “Educating the public about Romney’s treatment of his pet.”  This site has 43,486 likes.  They proudly say they are a “Super Pack.”  They provide a link to a website that has the story about Romney’s “dog on the car roof” vacation story.

Romney does not seem to be doing too well with pets – I also found “1 Million Irish Setters Against Mitt Romney.”  There are 2,258 people who “Like” the site.  I especially like the note posted on the site called, “How Dogs and Men are the Same” with comments like “Neither of them notice when you get your haircut” and “Both take up too much space on the bed” getting a chuckle from me.

Of course we have “Pet Lovers for Obama” Facebook page that “is dedicated to showcasing the Obama 2012 spirit of our favorite animals and those of us who love them.  While this page is run by the Obama 2012 campaign staff, our honorary host is Bo Obama, First Dog.”  The site has 11,314 likes.

In Montana, we have the Facebook page “Obama for America – Montana” which has 1,587 “Likes.”  The “Montana for Mitt Romney” Facebook page has 9 “Likes.”  “Montana for Newt Gingrich” has just two “Likes.”  Ron Paul has several different Facebook pages linked to Montana; the one with the most “Likes” is “Montana for Ron Paul 2012” which has 575.

Of course, I have to talk about the premiere race in the Montana – U.S. Senate.  Incumbent Senator Jon Tester has his campaign Facebook page with 6,029 “Likes” and his Senate “official” Facebook page coming in at 5,575 “Likes.”  A “No Jon Tester 2012” page has one “Like.”

I did find a “Stop Pink Slime” Facebook page with 1,331 “Likes.”  Jon Tester should like that page.

Denny Rehberg’s “Official” page comes in with 7,849 “Likes” and the Denny Rehberg for U.S. Senate Facebook page comes in with 1,895 “Likes.”  There’s a “Dump Denny Rehberg” Facebook page with 32 “Likes.”
