Only in America
Dreaming in red, white and blue
Only in America
Where we dream as big as we want to
We all get a chance
Everybody gets to dance
Only in America
-Brooks and Dunn “Only in America”
If you watched Fox News the last 24 hours, you were informed that the speech President Obama gave in Osawatomie, Kansas, yesterday contained the word “fair” a lot or that the President was starting class warfare.
His speech did contain the word “fair” some, but that was just the Fox News “fair and balanced” way of slighting the President. You should really flip the channel to MSNBC and CNN once in awhile to get a more balanced look at the news…
President Obama’s speech yesterday was darn good. It was the kind of speech that he could have given from the back-of-a-pick-up-truck-parked-in-the-gravel-parking-lot-at-a-truck-stop and it still would have been good. You can read it HERE.
The President’s speech was about restoring the middle class. The President said:
…this is not just another political debate. This is the defining issue of our time. This is a make-or-break moment for the middle class, and for all those who are fighting to get into the middle class. Because what’s at stake is whether this will be a country where working people can earn enough to raise a family, build a modest savings, own a home, secure their retirement.
When I heard that I said, “Yes…that’s all I want!” If you look at our elected officials in Washington too many of them were born with silver spoons and they just don’t understand what “working hard” for a living means.
The President’s line about fairness was brought to light when he said,
It’s wrong that in the United States of America, a teacher or a nurse or a construction worker, maybe earns $50,000 a year, should pay a higher tax rate than somebody raking in $50 million.
Will Obama be re-elected? I have no idea, but the crop of folks on the right wanting to take his place has, so far, not inspired this writer.
I agree with the President when he says, “We still believe that this should be a place where you can make it if you try.”
Yes…and everyone just needs a chance.

I agree that Fox is most definitely a biased news station, but so are almost all of the others out there. I would also agree that CNN is a more balanced station, but MSNBC is one of the more liberal news stations out there. If a person is to get a more balanced view of the news by watching MSNBC then perhaps they should watch FOX along with it.
President Obama is an excellent speaker and I sincerely applaud his speech writer – I always have. What he says is a wonderful idea. We need some kind of change to help the middle class – absolutely! But what plan is he offering to fix things? Do we punish those who have already succeeded in life? Raise taxes for the rich in order to pay for our over-priced government? Where will that money come from? If the middle class were to thrive and succeed in what they want, would they be willing to suffer for their success?
This is a wonderful idea. But how does it work? I’ve yet to hear a plan that actually contains the possibility of a solution. Something has to give, certainly. But does Obama actually have an idea of what that is?
