Here we go – the NFL season kicks off tonight – so you know there will be some football-related “numbers” in this week’s column.  Each week I take a look at some of the numbers in the news and put them in one nice place for all to see.  This week I write about campaign donations, unemployment, Lambeau field, telephone calls, lost panties, NFL starts, 9/11, and much more.

That’s how much money doctors, drug makers, hospitals and health insurers have contributed (since 1989) to the individual campaigns of lawmakers who are on the super committee. Max Baucus has received $3.2 million of that $17 million.

That’s the number of first-time unemployment claims filed last week.  It is an increase from last week.

Maybe this is “beating a dead horse” but it is very tough in the world right now.
