Here we go – the NFL season kicks off tonight – so you know there will be some football-related “numbers” in this week’s column. Each week I take a look at some of the numbers in the news and put them in one nice place for all to see. This week I write about campaign donations, unemployment, Lambeau field, telephone calls, lost panties, NFL starts, 9/11, and much more.
There’s something for everyone, so read on…17,000,000
That’s how much money doctors, drug makers, hospitals and health insurers have contributed (since 1989) to the individual campaigns of lawmakers who are on the super committee. Max Baucus has received $3.2 million of that $17 million.
I bet they would have an easier time in getting a face-to-face appointment with the senator than I would.
414,000
That’s the number of first-time unemployment claims filed last week. It is an increase from last week.
Maybe this is “beating a dead horse” but it is very tough in the world right now.
73,128
That’s the capacity of Lambeau Field where the Green Bay Packers will host the New Orleans Saints tonight in the NFL kickoff.
We are all undefeated!
65,000
That’s how many times a 42-year-old woman called her ex-boyfriend in the past year.
I hope she had a good mobile plan…
1,700
That is how many pairs of panties were found along the side of a road in central Ohio. Some appeared to have been worn.
Pants on the ground…
227
That’s the number of starts Indianapolis Colts’ QB Peyton Manning has made in a row in the NFL. That streak will come to an end this Sunday. Little brother Eli has 110 and will be the leader for active players after Sunday. By the way, Brett Favre holds the record with 321.
These are great stats to use to impress your NFL friends while watching the games…
180
That’s the amount a woman paid for an iPad which turned out to be a painted block of wood.
Maybe she should have asked the seller to turn it on?
38
That’s the age of former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
Wow…that “event” was 17 years ago!
35
That’s the new yard line that NFL teams will kick off from. They moved it up from the 30 yard line this year.
It will probably make kick-offs safer, but the games more boring…
10
On Sunday, it will be 10 years since 9-11-01. God bless those who lost loved ones during this attack. They will never be forgotten.
8
That’s the number of Republican debate participants last night. Can you name them?
2
Two teams kick off the NFL season tonight – It’s the New Orleans Saints at the Green Bay Packers! I am ready – are you?
