Hello Caught My Eye (CME) fans – congrats for making it to another wonderful Friday. You’ve worked hard this week and you deserve a few minutes just for yourself to read Caught My Eye.
You have my permission!
If this is your first time reading CME, welcome to the almost “award winning” weekly column. In CME, I take a look (sometimes with sarcasm) at stories that I did not have time to write about during this week.
This week I take a look at bin Laden, millionaires, a goat, bras and panties, my political inbox, political practices, a kangaroo and MORE. Here we go….Twitter and bin Laden:
With Osama bin Laden being killed and the news hitting the net Sunday evening, Twitter was quite busy. In fact Twitter set a new record and there were some funny tweets – here are a few:
-R.I.P. Osama Bin Laden – World Hide And Go Seek Champion (2001 – 2011) @NZAfro
– So Osama Bin Laden is dead… Amazing what the Americans can do when the Playstation Network is down. @sickipediabot
– They buried #OBL out to sea right after Japan released radioactive water into the ocean. This has the makings of an awesome monster movie. @farhanmasood
–☑Saddam Hussein ☑ Osama Bin Laden ☐ Internet Explorer @dudup
– BREAKING NEWS: Osama bin Laden dead, millions plan to dig him back up and kill him again for good measure. @NotGusJohnson
– I really wish I could leave some $$ for Cleveland, @LeBron is a douche @GhostOsama
If you saw some other funny Tweets about bin Laden, let me know….
Osama and Obama:
Some folks in the media had a hard time not mixing up the names and we have the video to prove it.
New Political Watchdog?
Here at The Western Word, I’ve commented about the Commissioner of Political Practices job several times. My latest commentary can be read HERE.
Reports now say that since the current Commissioner (a democratic activist) was not confirmed by the Montana State Senate, a new one must be appointed by the Governor.
So here we go…looks like there’s a job opening…
I Wanna Be A Billionaire So Freaking Bad…
The Republicans and the Democrats are feuding over whether or not their candidates are millionaires and saying the other one is not worthy to be elected because they have money or they have too much land and not enough cash.
Democrat Jon Tester is supposedly worth up to $1.2 million (Source). Republican Denny Rehberg is supposedly worth up to $56 million (Source). They both make $174,000 per year as a Senator and Representative, too.
Let’s just say neither politician is that “hard up.” This last week I purchased four loaves of bread from the day-old bread store for $5.50 and could only afford to put $30 worth of fuel in my vehicle. I was not born with mama or papa’s silver spoon in my mouth like these two gentlemen. Here’s a hint: Let’s talk about jobs, energy, security, the national debt (did I say jobs) and get off the stupid stuff…
Jack’s Political Inbox:
Almost every week I take a look at some of the e-mails that came into my inbox from politicians and political parties. I also comment about them. Here are a few. Enjoy!
-The Rick Hill for Governor Campaign sent me an e-mail with the subject, “Shifting Focus” in which he said, “Now that the legislative session has ended we’re going to see more attention paid to the upcoming elections, including this race for governor.”
After the three-ring circus in Helena, nothing much can top it, but we’re holding out hope…
–Gov. Sarah Palin graced my (snail mail) mailbox the other day asking for donations for SarahPac. In a smart move she sent only one page (front page and one-quarter of back) and then the fundraising form (Jack’s rule: Candidates should send only one-page letters through the mail, so Palin gets an “A”).
Whichever Republican Governor candidate in Montana can get her endorsement (and a visit from her) before the June 2012 primary on their behalf will probably win the nomination.
-The Montana GOP sent me an e-mail with the subject, “FYI: Another Tester Anti-Gun Vote” in which they say the Gun Owners Of America sent a press release saying “Senator Jon Tester (D) on Wednesday voted to confirm another anti-gun Obama nominee to the federal judiciary, according to Gun Owners of America (GOA).” They said it was John McConnell, who they claim is “a trial lawyer” from Rhode Island.
They failed to say that Montana’s other senator, Max Baucus, also voted for McConnell (probably because Baucus is not up for re-election). McConnell was confirmed 50-44.
Maybe the GOA folks should have worked harder in 2006…
-The Jon Tester Reelection campaign sent an e-mail with the subject “So close” in which they were trying to raise money to “Clean Up Dennis’s Mess” writing “After Dennis Rehberg decided that the best way to spend the anniversary of the Gulf Coast disaster was by raising big campaign cash with BP’s friends, we knew we had to get ready.’
Better watch out…now Tester’s donors are fair game…
Wanna Get Somebody’s Goat?
Find out where they tie it up…or maybe look for it in West Virginia: Anytime I read a headline like this one, “Man arrested in bra, panties, accused of stabbing goat” I have to read the rest of the story! You can read the odd story of the week HERE.
Almost heaven…West Virginia….
Can She Have Urban Chickens?
“The Broken Arrow City Council unanimously voted Tuesday night to create an exotic animal ordinance exemption that would allow Christie Carr to keep Irwin the red kangaroo within city limits under certain conditions.”
You can read the whole story HERE. No word if she’s taking the Irwin the kangaroo to IHOP…
