So now that most of the “new” news about Osama bin Laden has been brought forth, it’s time to take a look at a couple of angles; the political and the “getting credit” angle.
I don’t mean to say that we won’t learn more about bringing to justice Osama bin Laden, because we will – especially the on the ground reports from those who actually were on the mission (after several parts are redacted) and someone will write a book…then there’s movie…
Political:
It wasn’t long after the news that Osama bin Laden had been killed started trickling into our homes that stories about how much this would help Obama in his reelection began.
That’s politics. It’s our system. Sure it may keep a few of the weaker (aren’t they all?) GOP candidates out of the 2012 Presidential race and it may give Obama a bump in the polling. But one only needs to see that the national average for a gallon of gas is close to $4.00 (and approaching an all-time record) or see that millions of folks are still out of work to bring you back down to earth. The 2012 election won’t be easy for any incumbent.
Getting Credit:
I also read some articles about how Obama got him and Bush didn’t – and some tweets were the “in your face” kind. Some possible Presidential candidates did not mention Obama’s name when they gave public statements about bin Laden.
Frankly, the intelligence officials got him (The Patriot Act helped) after putting together bits and pieces of Intel over about seven years. Obama was the man standing in front of the camera Sunday night breaking the news and he should get the majority of credit for his part as Commander in Chief. He gave the order. His team (including Bush’s former Secretary of Defense) was making the calls and he is the Commander in Chief of the Navy SEALS who took him out.
Dirty Harry:
Finally, I think the United States of America got its “Clint Eastwood” persona back on Sunday – we told the world that if you harm us we will hunt you down and find you – even if it takes years. Those who want to do us harm should remember this line: “…you’ve got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?”

I’ll give 5% credit to President Bush…5% credit to President Obama…and 110% credit to the military and intelligence experts and professionals.
Haha…yep. Even some of those darn “career” civil servants should get a pat on the back…
