I happened to catch the news yesterday about a couple of Democratic State Senators in Montana who plan on introducing a bill to force lawmakers to disclose whether they receive health insurance benefits through the state. The legislators (like other state employees) can sign up for health and other benefits.
This is serious. This is our Montana Legislature at work…
The State Senators are Kendall Van Dyk (D-Billings) and Anders Blewett (D-Great Falls).
They seem to be a little upset that the Montana Legislature may vote to repeal the Federal Healthcare Reform law so they would like to “disclose” who is getting the state insurance and wants to repeal Obamacare.
That’ll get those rascals really good.
OK, the two state senators got their two minutes of fame. But they looked pretty goofy to most people outside of zip code 59620.
Most folks across the state don’t think very highly of the shenanigans that go on in Helena every two years for 90 days – as most of the time we end up paying out the nose for something whether it’s a new fee or an increase in the cost of something that we have to have.
Political stunts like this don’t help with that perception. The boys and girls in Helena should learn to play well together, do the real business of the state, get the heck out of Helena and leave us alone.
Of course, these two fellows are not the only ones doing silly things in Helena. It seems there are a few folks serving in the legislature who leave their brains, not to mention their common sense, at home.
We’ll write more about them at a later date.

Good point – maybe they take a pledge similar to the Hippocratic oath: “First, Do No Harm!”
Blewett’s grandstanding is just appalling – and would be laughable if it wasn’t so cringeworthy.
Remember his very first “official” act during the previous legislative session — he was SO concerned about the eyesore of the empty railcars between Helena and Great Falls. Oh, woe is me – empty railcars, such a blight on the Montana landscape!
And they wonder why politicians keep sliding lower and lower and lower in the eyes of the public.
Haha – I forgot about the railcars – you are correct. I just want them to do no harm and stop being foolish. -Jack
