U.S. Senate: Schedule Vote to Repeal Obamacare

Every once in a while it is time to start over with a fresh slate. The U.S. House of Representatives voted last week to start over by repealing the healthcare bill (or Obamacare as it is called).

This week would be a great time for the United States Senate to “start over” and schedule a vote to repeal the healthcare bill. Montana’s senior Senator, Max Baucus, should be leading the charge, and Jon Tester should be following him.

Sadly, Baucus has been quoted defiantly saying, “It won’t be repealed. No way.” Readers may remember that Baucus was one of the leaders of healthcare reform and then he publicly admitted he had not even read the final product. It was a YouTube moment for Baucus.

With a U.S. Senate and White House controlled by the Democrats and the U.S. House being controlled by the Republicans, the American people stand to get a much better product from Congress this time around.

It’s a win-win for us (for a change).

If a repeal vote is held, maybe we’ll get something dealing with healthcare that everyone has read – at least we should get something that both sides agree with the most.

The current healthcare law was forced down our throats – with the Democrats basically saying “we know what’s best for you” although most of them never ventured out into the public to discuss the bill or to hear from their bosses. Many members of Congress never read the 2000+ page bill. Most polls show that the public wants Obamacare repealed.

Many of the Democrats in the Senate who are up for reelection in 2012 (Jon Tester included) should understand that this would be a bellwether vote for their reelection efforts next year. A vote for repeal by Tester would show Montana voters he sides with them over Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Barack Obama.

If they don’t schedule a vote for repeal, then one must ask every Senate Democrat, “What are you so afraid of?”
