I guess I missed it. Sarah Palin was in Missoula Sunday afternoon to speak at a fundraiser for Teen Challenge, which is a very good program.
Nothing much can pry me away from the opening Sunday of NFL football, so even if I had remembered that Palin was in Missoula, I would have opted to watch football.
Probably a good baseball game or cooking show would have kept me away, too.
What was funny is that Palin got under the skin of the local newspaper, The Missoulian. So much that the editor, Sherry Devlin, decided to write a “blog” post about Palin and her comments…on Sunday afternoon.
Newspapers and blogging – how fun – if you can’t beat us, join us.
Devlin quoted Palin saying, “Be careful. There may be some media that sneaked into the room.”
Devlin then went on to explain that her team did not sneak into the room but that they obeyed all the rules for the event – and that her reporter and photographer were “very respectful and professional.”
OK, so what.
Almost everyone who follows national politics knows that Palin does not trust the media – she was burned during the Presidential campaign – mostly because John McCain’s people did not properly prep her for interviews (some say it was because they did not like her or maybe because Palin was not ready for the national stage).
So now Palin is wealthy and she has millions of followers…and she has the ability to (somewhat) control the message and to take a few shots at the media.
Devlin should not have taken Palin’s remarks personally – because as the Journey song goes, Devlin is just a “small town girl – living in a lonely world” and I highly doubt that the Missoulian is even on Palin’s radar.
