Caught My Eye…

Here we are, well into September. Football is in the air and the final push for candidates is happening with signs sprouting up like dandelions on my spring lawn.

In this week’s edition of “Caught My Eye” I take a look at food, comments about a former elected official, the President, and a lot more!

The Best Burger:

You might be surprised. Here are the results. My favorite has always been the Quarter Pounder with cheese, but Sonic Burgers and the In-N-Out burgers are pretty darn good, too.

No Comments:

Gregg, over at Electric City Weblog, wrote a post about the Great Falls Tribune shutting off the comments to the story puff piece entitled “Beltrone leaves lasting legacy” about outgoing Cascade County Commissioner, Peggy Beltrone.

I guess not everyone feels as highly about Beltrone as the Tribune does. They did an editorial giving her almost “queen-like” status today.

Baucus Event:

Hopefully, the Montana media and Montanans in general won’t get too excited about Max Baucus hosting his fifth economic development summit in Butte next week.

It’s held to help Baucus get re-elected. Later on, we’ll see Max touting that he created jobs and using videos from the event for his re-election campaign.

Sadly, jobs for Montanans are secondary to Baucus. Getting himself re-elected is the primary goal of the summit. I wonder how many of the “big names” attending the event are donors.

Alaska Senate:

It does not look like Senator Lisa Murkowski is done running for Senate yet. Many reports are saying she will run as a “write-in” candidate. Good for her. With the way some of the Tea Party candidates and officials have been acting lately, the fellow who beat her in the primary will probably post something stupid on Facebook before November.

Obama on Boehner:

Not that I care too much for House Minority Leader John Boehner, but President Obama sure went after him during his speech on Wednesday. Mostly you hear Presidents say things negative in general terms without mentioning names, but Obama kind of broke with tradition (some might say he was not a gentleman) during this speech. You can read Obama’s remarks HERE. ABC News called it an attack. The mounting chances of losing the majorities in the House and Senate are starting to get to the President.

The Dope:

A staffer for U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer was arrested for bringing marijuana into the Hart Senate Office Building this week. After he was released, he resigned. The Hart Senate Office building is where Boxer’s office is located. Senator Max Baucus and Senator Jon Tester also have offices in the Hart building. Just sayin…

Judy…Judy:

Former Montana Governor Judy Martz gave a speech in Helena this week. You can catch up with the former Governor by going HERE.

She was a fine Governor, period.

Baseball:

The Great Falls Voyagers are in the Pioneer League playoffs once again. They will play the Helena Brewers this weekend in the best of three series for the Pioneer North crown. Game one is in Helena Friday night and games two and three (if necessary) will be in Great Falls Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully, someone will be tweeting the scores and the weather will cooperate for the remainder of the season!

Ogden and Orem will play each other in the best of three series for the Pioneer South crown. The winners will face each other for the Pioneer League championship.

High School Football:

It’s probably not too often that both public high schools in Great Falls start the football season 0-2, but that is what has happened this season. CMR plays At Missoula Big Sky Friday night. Both teams are 0-2, so someone will go home happy. Great Falls High hosts Missoula Sentinel (1-1). Butte hosts Helena Capital in an early season battle of the 2-0 teams.

I’ll bet the “only thing that’s worse than losing is practice” saying rang true this week on the practice fields at the Great Falls high schools.

Tweet those scores this week sports fans!

Twitter:

My followers on Twitter are increasing daily. If you don’t follow me on Twitter, you are missing out!

Have a great weekend!
