Whitetail Port:

On Friday work was temporarily halted at the Whitetail Port in Montana. Senator Jon Tester hit the media wires with a press release about the temporary work stoppage.

At the end of his press release which I checked again this morning, Tester was quoted saying:

I’m looking forward to continuing to work with folks in Phillips County, Commissioner Bersin and the Canadian government to make sure this gets done right.

Sad. Tester does not even know the county in which the Port of Whitetail is located. The Port of Whitetail is in Daniels County, senator. Heck, Phillips and Daniels County are separated by Valley County. (UPDATE 08/09/10 @ 11:05: The Senator changed his press release to reflect the correct county.  I knew my map would help!)

Maybe if Tester would get out and about meeting Montanans he might know his Montana geography a little better. But here at The Western Word, we’re here to help. Here’s a map to help you and your staff.

Happy Harvest:

Not to pick on the senator, but it’s really easy these days. Since the Senate is in recess, Tester sent an e-mail from his campaign with the subject entitled “Noise” where he told folks the senate was really getting things done. Then he said that he was heading back to Montana:

I’m looking forward to getting some work done with Sharla in Big Sandy — harvesting our wheat and peas.

Of course, at the end he asked people to donate to his campaign. His election is not until 2012. He’s worried. Really worried. Happy harvest, senator.

More Whitetail Port:

The Editorial Board of the Helena Independent Record has changed their mind about the Port. They now feel the border crossing should be closed. Read it HERE. Maybe Sen. Tester should take note.

I Missed One:

In my last commentary, I listed where Montanans might find their two Democratic Senators over the August recess – but that you might have to pay to see them. I missed one – a big one that was held over the weekend. For $2,500 per individual or a $5000 PAC donation one could meet up with Senator Max Baucus at “Camp Baucus” at Big Sky. Politico has the story HERE.

Football:

The NFL Preseason kicked off Sunday night with the Hall of Fame game. Nice. More preseason games are scheduled for Thursday. You can check out the preseason schedule HERE.
