On the Road with Jack (II)

Leaving Rapid City, South Dakota, we drove by Ellsworth AFB where, if I remember correctly, was spared from being closed by Senator John Thune.

After a few miles, we stopped at Wall Drug where one can spend hours browsing around the stores and taking photos. There are 76,000 square feet of Wall Drug to explore! Everyone should make a stop at Wall Drug – it’s worth the time.

After Wall Drug, we headed on east on I-90. It was a beautiful day. We stopped in Murdo, South Dakota, which happens to be where Senator Thune grew up.

Soon we were almost across South Dakota and we stopped in Mitchell and visited the Corn Palace. Amazing! They have concerts and basketball tournaments at the Corn Palace. Everyone should take the tour at the Corn Palace to hear about its history.

After the Corn Palace we headed over to Sioux Falls. We decided to spend a couple days here. Sioux Falls is the largest city in South Dakota and growing. The metropolitan area population is close to 190,000. This would be a great place to live.

First up was a visit to the Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History and then hit the Empire Mall. I liked the zoo, but was very impressed with the museum.

Of course, traveling also allows us to eat at places where we don’t normally eat or can’t go to because of the distance. I can tell I’ve gained a little weight from the dining experiences!

On Thursday, we hit the road again heading toward Missouri for a long overdue visit with family and friends. It will be nice to be in one place for more than a couple of days.
