Lee Newspaper reporter Jennifer McKee recently wrote a story about Democratic Congressional candidate Dennis McDonald and his ties to late Jimmy “The Weasel” Fratianno, a mobster who ran the West Coast Cosa Nostra crime family.
McDonald is running for the U.S. House Seat currently occupied by Congressman Denny Rehberg.
I am sure it pained McKee to do the story, being that she drifts to the left when she writes. Besides, this information has only been out there for a year or more.
Of course, McKee tried to tie some Republicans to The Weasel to soften the story. For some reason she attempted to contact former federal prosecutor and Mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, but to no avail.
I don’t think McDonald’s work with The Weasel can be compared to Giuliani’s work as a U.S. Attorney and Associate Attorney General.
Maybe McKee should have contacted Michael Corleone.
McDonald was very open about his relationship with The Weasel, but he really had no choice. He was kind of cornered with the exceptional research into his past that the Montana GOP released last year, so it was time for him to sing like a bird. It’s funny how one’s past can catch up to them in this day and age.
McDonald contends he was instrumental in bringing down many mobsters, but I don’t think Montana voters will look at him as crime fighter. Soon we’ll see how well the rank and file Democrats feel about his past when the primary rolls around and, if McDonald wins, his supporters may be wondering what else they may find out about the man who represented The Weasel.
