Good for Schultz

I was happy to read on the KRTV website that current Great Falls International Airport Director, Cynthia Schultz, has applied for her current job.  Sounds funny, doesn’t it – applying for a job you already have?

Of course, I must offer some commentary.

The opening was created by the heavy-handed Great Falls International Airport Authority Board, by saying they would not renew Schultz’s current contract – but to save face (and maybe a lawsuit) said she could apply.

This “brilliant” board is also spending around $35,000 (of our money) to hire an out-of-state company to find applicants – when the best person already has the position.

Great googly moogly!

These Board members, whom I believe want to micromanage the director – are trying to replace the person who has increased the assets of the airport from $18.5 million to $113 million and the hangar occupancy from 28% to 100% and discretionary grants from $235,000 to $49 million – all since 1998.

Schultz should be awarded the job – hands down – but the current board is so caught up in beating her, they will probably pick a lesser candidate – just to win and save face.  But Great Falls and Cascade County stands to lose if Schultz is not chosen for the position.

I still call on the elected officials (City and County Commissioners) who appoint these —– to get rid of the current board members and appoint some regular folks who actually have some common sense – who won’t spend $35,000 dollars on silly things.
