Sometimes when public officials do or say certain things, we shake our heads in disbelief. Many heads are looking like a bobble-head dolls this week after reading about the escapades of Montana’s Max, Senator Max Baucus.
I commented earlier about Montana U.S. Senator Max Baucus and nominating his girlfriend for U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana. Heck, that was just the tip of the old iceberg.
You don’t have too look very far in Google today to see the crap is piling up around Baucus.
For example:
Sen. Baucus’ girlfriend helped with senator’s divorce
Or this:
Senator Baucus gave girlfriend $14000 raise
Earlier we learned that:
Baucus took girlfriend on taxpayer-funded junkets in 2008
It seems that a few local Montana reporters were asking questions about the relationship between Baucus and Hanes, but failed to push the story across the goal line for publication. Sadly, if you are a darling of the media (Democrat/Liberal) in a state like Montana, then editors and publishers don’t want to push the envelope because they like you and don’t want to harm you.
On the other hand, of you are disliked (GOP/Conservative), you can bet your bottom dollar the local press will run the story with a lot less than they had on Baucus, For example, Conrad Burns was a victim of the Montana media zest to win a Pulitzer. Reading their stories, Burns would be in year three of a federal prison sentence, but nothing happened.
Even after suffering a stroke the other night, Montana’s poor excuse for the Associated Press decided to re-play the baseless accusations. Classy work there AP.
But back to Baucus.
Many folks in the places I frequent believe it’s time for him to hang it up (as in resign). He does not live in Montana. He’s failed to hold any open town hall meetings about healthcare, nor has he even appeared on any Sunday talk shows to as “Mr. Healthcare” Montanans deserve someone who comes back to the state to do more than campaign for another term. Frankly, he’s embarrassed Montana more than anyone, and who knows what else we’ll find out as a few energetic reporters (who don’t live in Montana) and bloggers continue to dig, I mean, investigate.
The Governor can appoint a temp until there’s a general election.
