Well, at least he made a decision!

I just finished listening to President Barack Obama’s speech about Afghanistan a few minutes ago.  I dozed off in the middle of it for a few minutes.  Seriously.  I went back and read it later so I could make some comments!

I noticed the applause from the cadets at West Point were polite but reserved – kind of like respecting the office, but not the occupant.

According to a new poll by Gallup, only 35% approve of the way he is handling the war in Afghanistan.  He didn’t do much tonight to strengthen those numbers.

After thinking about it for 92 days from the date of the request, Obama decided to send 30,000 of the 40,000 troops requested by General Stanley McChrystal.

30,000 is good.  40,000 is needed.  I know it’s probably hard for a man who never served in the military to listen to a General’s recommendations, but he should.

The most ridiculous thing was the idea to withdraw the troops in 2011 and be completely out in 2013.  You don’t let your enemy know your plans.

I do want us to succeed in Afghanistan, and we have the men and women who can get the job done – if they are given the resources to do it.

Obama does not have the fire in his eyes (and speeches) he once had.  He did not “sell” his plan tonight.  The Office of the President is wearing Obama out.  He looks and sounds tired.  His speech was lethargic. Our enemies will find it refreshing that they are wearing the President and his administration down.

The bottom line is that after tonight’s speech, our enemies now believe victory over the United States and President Obama is just a couple years away.
