MT-AL 2010: There’s a witness!

I picked up this little bit of information today while reading some newspapers on the web.  Of course, I must make some comments…

Apparently, a man who for over 23 years has worked with drug and alcohol addicts and was “trained to observe and monitor levels of intoxication” has come forward to say that he believes Congressman Denny Rehberg “was not intoxicated” prior to the boating accident in which Rehberg was just a passenger.

Sounds like an expert witness to me.

In a letter that was sent to the Daily Inter Lake newspaper, Terry Brick wrote this about Rehberg, “We spoke shortly before he boarded the boat.  His speech was clear and articulate.  As he walked down the dock, I observed him.  His gait was steady, movements coordinated.”

You can read the whole story, HERE.  You can read Mr. Brick’s letter to the editor HERE in the Montana Standard.

Dennis McDonald, one of the three Democrats vying for the seat occupied by Rehberg, has called on Rehberg to apologize for being intoxicated.

No charges have been filed against anyone involved in the accident which occurred over six weeks ago.

Brick concludes his letter by saying, “Rehberg has been erroneously portrayed as drunk.  It’s not true.  My heartfelt compassion goes out to him and his staff.  They were injured passengers in an unforeseen calamity.  I wish them speedy recovery.”

Mr. Brick apparently is not a “party insider” or contributor to any candidates, either.

It would have been nice if everyone would have shown some kindness for those injured instead of firing off e-mails for political gain.  These types of campaign tactics turn the voters off.

But wait, it’s not too late for McDonald to apologize for trying to politicize this tragic accident.  Yes, apologize.  I won’t hold my breath for that although it would be nice.  I’m thinking the Montana voters will probably rebel against him for the lack of compassion he’s shown toward his fellow Montanans.  He’ll have to live with that.

  1. Expecting McDonald to apologize is like waiting for Jimmy the Weasel to apologize for his last “hit”. Oh, wait, McDonald would know something about mobsters and such, he has friends in the San Francisco Mob. Oh, well, when you get the liberal elite espousing thier lofty ideals and values, they get bit in the butt because they never consider their own actions. Unfortunatly I’ve spent some time around McDonald, who’s known as a bufoon in the ranching world, and have seen him for the fool he is. It does appear that he sealed his own demise, using this accident and his accusations against Rehberg as somehow being responsible for it. I watched the first 50 blogs in the Billings Gazette, and the first 59 excoriated him, and the 50th was not a glowing endorsement of his cause. The next 50 blogs were very similar. He just doesnt’ get it. This is Montana, and when confronted by an outsider like McDonald, we circle the wagons.
