It’s been an interesting week on the news front. I found a few things to comment about this week. Some comments are about very serious issues and some, well, not so much. Take a read…
Emails from Dennis McDonald:
I received three more e-mails (after the one I received last Friday) from possible U.S. House candidate Dennis McDonald attacking Denny Rehberg for being a passenger in a boat that wrecked.
I guess if you’re going down, you might as well fire off all your rounds. Maybe that’s the San Fran Cowboy way!
Obamas and the Olympics:
Come on GOP – It is pretty nitpicky to criticize the President about promoting his hometown for the 2016 Olympics. You need to get a life (and maybe a healthcare plan, and a leader, and a…).
Seriously, you didn’t expect Obama to send Joe Biden to lobby the Olympic committee, did you?
I like the Olympics more when they are held in the USA. I like to watch them live instead of tape-delayed.
My Senators…they wrote a letter:
Montana’s Senators, Max Baucus and Jon Tester, wrote a letter about Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM). These crazy guys do about everything together, so it was really no surprise that they wrote a letter to the DOD about keeping the ICBMs at the current level.
Baucus and Tester are already in the history books for losing 50 missiles at Malmstrom AFB on their watch. Sorry boys, your letter was a little late.
Pawlenty…for President:
I’m not excited. Are you? If you don’t know the name, then you are not excited, either. It may cost him $10 million for name recognition – and most of that just to help people learn how to pronounce it.
Healthcare:
Not many “Mark-Ups” of a bill are televised, even on C-SPAN, but this is the sausage-making part of the bill. It was painful to watch Max Baucus. One time he voted “No by Proxy” for some senator who was actually there.
How’s that Public Option working out? Max Baucus is capital
D-I-R-T to the supporters of the Public Option after he voted no (twice) in committee. Max may have Michael Moore on his case, soon. But since Max is not up for re-election until 2014, these issues will be forgotten by then.
Obama and Afghanistan:
This is really easy, Mr. President: Listen to the Generals and the people who have boots on the ground. Being a former enlisted man, you should probably forgo the Generals and just listen to your senior enlisted people. They will tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.
It would be nice if you would call the General once in awhile, too. Generals like that.
One should also look at history. The Soviets could not win the war with Afghanistan although they had 100,000+ troops in the country at one time. Some reports say the Soviets lost around 15,000 soldiers during the war. Other reports say it was 25,000. Nonetheless, to win the war in Afghanistan the USA will need to increase the troop strength dramatically. By the way, the Soviets were there for about nine years before withdrawing, defeated. They were defeated with the help of the USA.
Sarah Palin’s book:
Palin reportedly got a cool $7 million for a book deal and it is already #1 on several lists (before it is printed). For someone who has been portrayed in the media and by her detractors as not very bright, this seems like a pretty brilliant move to me. Who needs to be a Governor when you can strike when the iron is hot with your story?
By the way, the title of the book is, “Going Rogue: An American Life.” Hmmm.
Catch you on Twitter!

Nice wrap of the week – and congrats on the new domain!
