OK, even the most die-hard fans of the NFL were probably scratching their heads this weekend after seeing the upsets.
Before I write about the playoffs, congratulations and thanks to Tony Dungy, who resigned today as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. He was a good guy and a great coach: Six straight twelve win seasons, ten straight playoff appearances, 148 career wins. The first black head coach to win the Super Bowl. Faith, family, and football (in that order) are very important to him, and that is probably the greatest thing a man can have said about his life. If you get a chance, read his book, “Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, & Priorities of a Winning Life.”
OK, back to the playoffs. I went 0-4 this weekend. Luckily, I don’t depend on my picks to put food on the table.
To me, seeing Kurt Warner get back to the NFC Championship game is pretty neat. Warner is a true professional. I remember the “greatest show on turf” days. Will the Cards get to the Super Bowl? Nobody thought they had a chance to make it this far and now they have the NFC Championship game at home.
On the other hand, the way Jake Delhomme of the Panthers played was tough to watch. I kept thinking that the next play was going to turn it around for them, but the Cardinals defense played great and Delhomme had his worst game.
The Steelers and Ravens (Part III) should be as good as or better than Parts I and II. Ravens QB Joe Flacco is doing well as a rookie. If the Steelers want to win Part III, they will need to make the Ravens depend on Flacco to win it by stopping the Ravens running game.
Please take part in the poll on the left. Please! Here are my picks to make it to the Super Bowl: Arizona over Philly and the Steelers over the Ravens. Arizona and Pittsburgh will play in the Super Bowl on February 1. Since I was 0-4 this weekend, you might want to pick the opposite of me.
