Donor Pleads Guilty

According to the Associated Press, “The Obama campaign and a Democratic U.S. senator from Montana say they are giving to charity money they received from a Big Arm man who pleaded guilty to felony charges following a federal corruption probe in Alaska.”

The Democratic U.S. Senator from Montana is Jon Tester.

According to this story, “William C. Weimar, 68, was convicted in August of illegally funneling money to a political consultant for an Alaska state Senate candidate in the 2004 primary…” He will be sentenced November 12.

The AP reported, “…Weimar gave $2,100 to the campaign of U.S. Sen. Jon Tester in 2006, and $250 each to the congressional campaigns of Democrats Monica Lindeen in 2006 and Jim Hunt in 2008.”

Lindeen is currently running for Montana State Auditor.

I guess a good question for the reporter to ask of those who received donations would have been, “Did you do any special favors for Mr. Weimar?”

It’s also interesting to me that Weimar was convicted in August and the money he donated has not been donated yet. Of course, they say they “plan on” donating it. We’ll be watching.

Surprisingly, nobody claims to have ever met Mr. Weimar.
