Max Baucus was cruising along to a win in the general election, when all of a sudden he voted against 90% of Montanans when he voted for the $700+ billion bailout bill. The bill was also loaded down with pork.
After the bailout vote, one company (AIG) that received the money Max voted for took a retreat at a resort and received spa treatments for a cool $440,000. Taxpayers now own about 80% of that company. I’m looking forward to my spa treatment.
Wonderful work, Max and friends. Now Baucus is getting his head handed to him in the letters to the editor section of most newspapers.
For example:
“Tester, Rehberg did right thing; Baucus blew it”
“Baucus didn’t follow will of his constituents”
The comments associated with these letters on the Billings Gazette website show Montanans are outraged with Baucus for his vote against Montanans.
Feeling there was trouble brewing with his vote (weeks late), Max sent the newspapers his opinion on the bailout. Ouch! More and more comments below the opinion show that Max Baucus was out of touch with the constituents he’s counting on to send him back to DC for another six years.
To change the subject, Max has more commercials on television and radio than he probably planned to have. That’s good for conservative candidates, because Max has to spend a little more money on his race than he planned, and that prevents him from spending it on “Suzy Democrat in House District XX.”
One veteran’s commercial angers me. Max takes credit for all things good for veterans and has four or five veterans vouching for him. One thing Max has never answered is where was he when the Vietnam era draft was going on? Did he do a Biden?
The Montana GOP has to be kicking themselves in the butt for not providing a strong candidate to take on Max Baucus. They should be. Max is weakened. It’s been proven that his party blocked regulation of these companies – these companies ran wild and Max received the most campaign contributions of any Montana politician for his work for them.
The chances of Bob Kelleher beating Max Baucus are still slim. Many Montanans feel that Max Baucus is a joke and they may just vote for Anybody But Max (ABM) to send that message. Stranger things have happened.
