The long wait is almost over. NFL football starts tonight with the Redskins at the Giants. Then Sunday, the rest of the season starts. Monday night we have a doubleheader with Minnesota at Green Bay and Denver at Oakland. Heaven!
To prime the pump, I listened to a couple of high school games on the radio and watched a couple of major college games on TV. It’s a great feeling when the season starts – every team has a dream of going all the way. Every team is undefeated and the expectations are high.
As a Kansas City Chiefs fan, I am not expecting much this season. They were 4-12 last year, and while I expect them to improve by a couple of games, I am not expecting much this year. It’s the dreaded word, “rebuilding” which seems to be the story for the Chiefs in the last decade. So I may “crow” just a little louder when they actually do win a game. They start out playing at New England. Some folks consider the Patriots the best team in 2008.
I know predictions are like, well you know what, but here are mine:
AFC East: 1. Patriots, 2. NY Jets (Favre improves the Jets)
AFC West: 1. San Diego, 2. Denver (if injuries don’t hamper the Chargers, this may be their year)
AFC South: 1. Indianapolis, 2. Jacksonville and Tennessee will fight it out (If the Colts suffer some injuries, this could be the most exciting division)
AFC North: 1. Pittsburgh, 2. Cleveland
NFC East: 1. Dallas, 2. Philadelphia and NY Giants. (This will be a great fight)
NFC North: 1. Green Bay, 2. Detroit and Minnesota (This division will be tough)
NFC South: 1. Tampa Bay, 2. Carolina and New Orleans.
NFC West: 1. Seattle. This is probably the weakest division in Pro football.
In the end, I predict San Diego will be playing Dallas in the Superbowl.
