Republican Gubernatorial candidate Roy Brown recently released his tax returns. The Democrats have tried to paint Brown as a “wealthy oil” candidate, due to Brown’s past occupation. They even issued a press release with a photo of a gas price sign that read, “Big Oil Roy.”
But, a funny thing happened on the way to election: None of the income Brown claimed came from the oil industry. Zero.
A few months ago, the Montana Democratic Party issued a press release touting that Governor Schweitzer had released his tax returns for every year he’s served in elective office. Wow!
What everyone really wanted to see in 2004 (and still today) are the tax returns (if there are any) for his work around the world, like for the seven years he worked in Saudi Arabia. He refused to release them, so those years remain a mystery. Things like that would probably keep most folks from being considered for any national office or a high-level position in a President’s administration, but not from holding an elective office here in Montana.
Let’s hope folks don’t start calling the Governor names and making up fake signs…

I’m not so concerned with the gov’s tax returns from way back when – what I would like to see are the business/corporate tax returns he’s submitted since he’s been elected. Does anyone really believe that that mansion on Georgetown Lake is the result of his official salary? There’s no way.
Anon 3: Cairo Egypt? Yes. London? Yep. I feel the same for both candidates. When someone wants to be the Governor of a state, I think they should be honest and open about their past employment, where they lived, who paid them, etc., not just the year they decide to run and for the years they are in elected office. It’s like applying for a job and the voters deserve to know about their past employment history not just a generic “I worked in ten-buck-two for seven years and irrigated someone’s yard and that’s all I am saying about it because it’s personal” crap.
Jack->Roy Brown’s website says that he worked in Cairo, Egypt. So, are you going to demand to know how much he pocketed over there and who he met?
First Anon: Nope, I am not implying anything, except I would like to know about his time over there, who he met, how much he pocketed, etc. >Second Anon: I am sure the Lee Newspapers reporters have checked out what Environmental Services of Wyoming does as the statement went unchallenged by them. You know, they are always on the ball. >Thanks for stopping by!
What is Environmental Services of Wyoming? Are you sure that has nothing to do with oil?
Are you implying that the current Governor may be a (gasp) tax cheater??!! Why else would he refuse to release them?
