Destination: North Carolina

It seems Monday was the day that a couple of Montana’s elected officials decided to visit North Carolina. Yep, North Carolina.

First, we had Governor Brian Schweitzer attending a Barack Obama speech in North Carolina. Then, we had well-traveled Senator Jon Tester in North Carolina for a fundraiser (or maybe it was for an Elton John Concert). A few days ago, Tester was in Alaska during his Memorial Day vacation.

There’s no word if Schweitzer and Tester were going to take time out of their busy schedules to visit Mayberry, North Carolina, and drop in for a visit with Sheriff Andy Taylor and Deputy Barney Fife, or get a haircut from Floyd the barber.

  1. Hey Jim: Tester probably does not have a choice since he is ranked #99 and Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin and the gang are telling him where to go – like a traveling salesman. To answer your question about having a Republican in demand to do this, the answer is nope. I’d rather have an elected official, democrat or republican, using their time to meet with the constituents he/she represents in the state, instead of jetting around the country. In less than two years, Tester is quickly becoming “Tester the Traveler.” -Jack

  2. Don’t you wish you had Republicans who were so popular they were actually in demand for campaigning on behalf of candidates in distant places like NC? It’s a good time to be a Democrat….

  3. No. I imagine Tester’s was paid by the candidate he’s campaigning for or the Democratic Senatorial Committee, or maybe from his own campaign funds, and I heard or read somewhere that Schweitzer was out there for an official conference, which is also known as a free trip on the taxpayer’s dime. -Jack
