Max Says No Debates

So it is said, so shall it be done. Will the media in Montana let him get away with it? Will Montanans let Max get away without even debating his opponent?

If so, we might as well call him King Max. A story that appeared in the Lee Newspapers paints the senior Senator from Montana as confused and somewhat arrogant in his bid for another term.

Maybe he does not want to debate Kelleher because King Max can’t seem to string a couple of sentences together. Come on Max Baucus – your opponent is 85 years old. You have that many staff working for you to defeat the old guy.

These are just a few graphs from the story:

“I’m not running against anyone,” Baucus said, reached by telephone in Washington, D.C., where the Senate was in session. “I’m just running for this job. I feel so lucky to be representing Montana.”

Still, Kelleher’s unusual candidacy does present some changes for both Baucus and Montana Republicans.

For one thing, said Barrett Kaiser, a Baucus spokesman, there will be no debates.

“Max plans on talking to Montanans across the state and they’ll have ample opportunity to ask him questions,” he said. “But we don’t want to subject him to what will become a circus.”

“I’m not running against anyone,” -What a crock. Can a candidate be much more egotistical? Max, you are running against someone who paid the required fees to enter the race for U.S. Senate. That’s the way our process works. Just because you’ve been in D.C. since you and Senator Byrd were teenagers, does not mean you get a free pass.

“But we don’t want to subject him to what will become a circus.” – Isn’t a circus what Baucus participates in every day? It’s called Congress.

By the way, Mr. Kaiser, you just started the circus. Kelleher needs to do the Daily Show again. Let’s make this a fun one to remember forever!

With Congressional approval ratings lower than a well-diggers bottom (that means historically low for you folks in Washington, DC, and in the media) Montanans may just decide to replace the King with a Jester – just for grins and giggles.

At least we’d get a senator who has a personality.
