On Top of It

With gas prices heading to $4.00 a gallon and food prices going up each time I visit the grocery store, Max Baucus is looking at health care. Yes, health care.

The Billings Gazette decided this was important enough to write a story about. The reporter was kind enough to write, The Montana Democrat noted that the country has debated health care reform for at least a century and that all those efforts failed.

He says they will succeed this time. In other words he’s saying, “Vote for me again.” Politicians do this all the time. They say they will fix a problem in the future to try and convince voters it won’t be fixed unless they are reelected.

So, what’s he done about healthcare problems the last 30 years? Baucus had his chance to make a difference. He has not. Social Security and Medicare are in bad shape, but he’s done nothing to protect them, although his committee has the jurisdiction over these programs.

Some of Max’s former staff secured lucrative lobbying positions in the health care industry, so I guess he did “do good” for some folks.
