Obama’s still sinking

Imagine Barack Obama is President and something dangerous happens in the world (Yes, it can be happening at 3:00 a.m.).

I can imagine Obama saying, “Give me a few minutes and I’ll whip up a 40 minute persuasive speech to help with this problem.”

It seems that’s about all Obama can do is give a good speech. Until today.

Obama’s back is against the wall. Welcome to big time politics, Sen. Obama. Presidential candidates are scrutinized more than anyone. People are checking into your past, your friends and associates. And yes, checking into your religion.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright issue is sinking his ship. He failed today to calm the fears of the electorate. Many folks believe there is more to the story. They really don’t know this young senator. They are starting to have doubts.

I do not believe his “major speech” this morning calmed the fears or answered many questions. According the Associated Press Obama said this about Rev Wright, “I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community.”

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton is playing it cool. She won’t be throwing Obama a life preserver anytime soon.

  1. I’m Catholic and I go for the liturgy and for the Body of Christ. If one of our pasters ever crosses the line into politics (or heresy) I will walk out and find a new parish.

  2. JP: I imagine we’ll see them soon – someone working behind the scenes who support Clinton or McCain. It should be a fun 2008! Someone, somewhere, must have a video of Obama clapping or nodding at one of Wright’s sermons. Heck, these days someone will make one up for YouTube! CAROL: Those of us who attend church mostly do so because of the Pastor and how he delivers his sermon. I don’t buy that Obama did not know Rev. Wright’s opinions on these things. I would have walked out, but it appears Obama liked it so much that he stayed there for 20 years. Clinton may be the one laughing as Obama may not win another primary or caucus! Thanks for stopping by The Western Word folks.

  3. I really want to like Obama. He could be the next president, the way things are going. Does he love this country or is he some sort of postmodern sophisticate who can listen to sermons like Wright’s Greatest Hits and just laugh them off?

  4. How long do you suppose until there’s a YouTube or 527 commercial with this line from Obama’s speech: <>“The man I met more than twenty years ago is a man who helped introduce me to my Christian faith”<>Followed by Rev. Wright at the pulpit.I’ll bet not long.
