The Montana media started giving their first reports on Thursday regarding Senator Jon Tester’s trip to Iraq.
To really no one’s surprise, Tester told reporters he has not changed his stance of being against the war. Some of us hoped after he visited some of America’s finest, he would change his tune. Wishful thinking.
Tester says the war wastes millions of dollars per week. It would have been nice if a reporter would have asked, “Then why did you waste hundreds of thousands of dollars by using military aircraft and security to visit Iraq, Senator, since you were dead set against the war?” I know, I know, Montana reporters don’t ask tough questions.
At least Baucus, and now Tester, can check a trip to Iraq off their political “To Do” lists now.
Since Tester has no military background, he probably did not realize that most of the troops in Iraq knew his stance against their mission before his feet ever hit the ground. Our military personnel understand when politicians twist words and say they support the troops, but not the war. They understand you really can’t have it both ways. Still, they are respectful to elected officials, even the anti-military ones.
Senator John McCain, who actually understands defense issues, said it best the other day after his Thanksgiving visit to Iraq. McCain said the troops told him, “Let us win.” They know that he supports them and their mission.
So, let us win, Senator Tester. Just let us win.

Interesting that Tester – after only one visit – talks about his observation of improvement as if he is a seasoned expert. Usually, one would need a benchmark to compare the most recent trip with to identify “improvement”. >>Consider Congressman Murtha – one of the most vocal opponents of the war – who said that the surge is working after his most recent trip to Iraq. This carries a little more water considering he’s been there several times so he has something to compare it with.>>But it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Tester is carrying the MoveOn.org banner that the war is lost and we should accept defeat as soon as possible.>>http://thelastbestplace.blogspot.com/2007/09/dancin-with-one-who-brung-him.html
