As many of my readers know, I receive many pieces of information in the mail and in e-mail from political candidates.
Maybe I subscribe because I want to feel “needed” “wanted” and “in the know.”
The Presidential candidates keep my Inbox full of information. Last Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving) many of the Presidential candidates and political parties sent me an email telling me to have a Happy Thanksgiving. In total, they sent 11 e-mails on Wednesday. They are so darn thoughtful.
The winner: Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Team Clinton asked for donations, but not for her campaign. She asked for donations for the needy and provided websites and phone numbers to volunteer and donate to worthy causes. At her campaign offices in various states, Clinton’s team was accepting donations of nonperishable food to help local efforts to fight hunger. Smart, very smart.
In the political world, the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is difficult to raise money. People are spending money on Christmas gifts, and on trips they will take over the river and through the woods to grandma’s house, etc.
Then you have January, when many people are getting their credit card bills for all the gifts they purchased for Christmas. It’s not a good time to try and raise money. You also have tax season, which means more bills for some people and refunds for others. Fundraising for campaigns is just tough from late November through the end of January.
But it appears some do not see it that way.
Yesterday in my snail mail box, I received two political mailings, one from a political party and the other from a candidate. I won’t name them, as they know who they are, and because I plan on calling them stupid later in the posting. I don’t want to hurt their feelings. I’m that kind of guy.
Both broke Jack the Blogger’s rule on political mailings: Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS). There were multiple pages with information on the front and back. If it is hard for someone as “muscular” as me to rip your mailer in half on the way to the trash can, then it is too many pages.
My first thought was, “Why would I give you money, when you are wasting my time sending me a book-like letter?” And then I thought, “You just spent a few thousand dollars of money people donated for a ridiculous political mailer like this?” Your people are truly stupid.
But, I’m looking forward to the Christmas cards and e-mails from the candidates and office holders. Maybe I’ll get a calendar!

I am a firm believer in never giving money to candidates or parties.>>It only encourages them.
