Wishful Thinking

It looks like Montana’s junior Senator, Jon Tester, will be heading to Iraq next week with Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia. That’s according to this STORY that has seemed to escape the Montana media.

Traveling to Iraq fills a politician’s résumé these days. They basically have to go – even those who do not have a seat on any defense or military committee, like Tester.

There will be photos to capture the moment and press releases with statements. It gives them even more reasons to be against the mission and use the “I have been there and seen firsthand…” For those politicians like Tester, who are against the war in Iraq, that’s about the only reason I can think for them to go there.

Maybe Tester will change his stance on Iraq and concede that we are winning? People are safer. There’s less violence. Things are looking up. Our troops are getting the job done. Maybe he will vote to fully fund the troops and this mission?

I know, I know, `tis the season of wishful thinking and daydreaming.

  1. He has no frame of reference. If he’d been to Iraq before the war, maybe he’d have a leg to stand on. It’s an uninformed person making a ignorant judgment on a book’s cover. How can a logical person make a judgment on a situation without the whole picture? How can that make sense in any way?
