On Tuesday, President Bush vetoed the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2008. The bill contained over 2,200 EARMARKS costing about $1 Billion. The whole bill spent $606 billion.
In one of his better comments, Bush said the Democrats, are “acting like a teenager with a new credit card.”
Priceless and true.
Some reports say the House and the Senate do not have the votes to override the President’s veto of this bill. We’ll see. With 2,200 earmarks, everyone should get a little pork like they did in the Water Resources Development Act of 2007, which made voting against the President easier to swallow for some.
So what will the Democrats do now? It appears they will place a date for withdrawal from Iraq with the funding for the global war on terror to punish President Bush. Yes, that will get him really good. There’s an election coming up in less than a year, so to speculate that the Democrats will use the Iraq war (again) to try and win (and retain) some seats in Congress would not be too far-fetched. It makes one wonder who really cares about the troops.
So far the first session of the 110th Congress has been nothing but a circus, with only one (of 12) appropriation bills actually signed into law. Good grief. This isn’t even an election year.
