It was another great weekend for couch potatoes across the nation!
Montana
#2 Carroll College rolled up a 30 point lead by the end of the third quarter and went on to beat Montana-Western 30-16. Carroll is 10-0. They play Montana Tech next Saturday at home. Carroll beat Montana Tech 17-0 at their place in early October. Montana Tech is 7-3.
The University of Montana Grizzlies found the going tough against Portland State University, but managed to win 34-31 in Missoula. The PSU Quarterback, Drew Hubel, threw for 404 yards against Montana. The Griz are 9-0 and play at Idaho State (3-6) next week.
The Montana State University Bobcats lost to Northern Arizona in Bozeman on Saturday, 29-14. The Bobcats are 5-4 and in fifth place in the Big Sky Conference. The Bobcats travel to Portland next Saturday to play Portland State (2-7).
Big College Football
There were five undefeated teams in major college football going into this weekend. #2 Boston College lost. #4Arizona State, lost. That leaves Ohio State, Kansas and Hawaii undefeated.
Nebraska lost to Kansas, 76-39. Nebraska coach Bill Callahan might think about leaving town this weekend. This was the most points scored against Nebraska in their 117 year football history.
#1 Ohio State beat #21 Wisconsin 38-17. Ohio State is 10-0.
#2 Boston College lost to Florida State 27-17. Boston College is 8-1.
#3 LSU beat a tough #21 Alabama 41-34. LSU is 8-1.
#4 Arizona State lost to #5 Oregon 35-23. Both teams are 8-1.
#6 Oklahoma beat Texas A&M 42-14. Oklahoma is 8-1.
#7 West Virginia did not play. They are 7-1.
#8 Kansas beat up on Nebraska 76-39. Kansas is 9-0.
#9 Missouri beat Colorado 55-10. Mizzou is 8-1. By the way, Kansas and Missouri play November 24 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO.
#10 Georgia beat Troy 44-43. Georgia is 7-2.
New BCS Standings
It’s looking like the Big 12 may be the top college football conference this year. This week they have three teams in the BCS top 10 (Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri). Texas, another member of the Big 12, is rated #14.
1. Ohio State
2. LSU
3. Oregon
4. Kansas
5. Oklahoma
6. Missouri
7. West Virginia
8. Boston College
9. Arizona State
10. Georgia
Sunday Tackle Football
It was another tough road for my picks this week. I am 8-4 going into Monday night’s game.
New England at Indianapolis: In Superbowl 41 ½ , the New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts 24-20. It was an instant classic. I hope they meet again in January. The Patriots are 9-0. The next question is if the Pats will go 16-0. I don’t think they will.
Records: Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings set the NFL single- game rushing record Sunday with 296 yards rushing and, in the same game, San Diego cornerback Antonio Cromartie returned a missed field goal 109 yards for a touchdown making it the longest play in NFL history.
The weakest divisions: All of the teams in the AFC West lost. All the teams in the NFC West lost, except the St. Louis Rams. The Rams have lost all their games so far. The Rams had a bye this week.
These teams are for real: Besides the Patriots and the Colts, the Detroit Lions are for real. They are 6-2. Detroit beat the hapless Denver Broncos 44-7. The Green Bay Packers are for real, too. The Pack beat my Kansas City Chiefs 33-22. The game was a lot closer than the score indicates. Brett Favre hit Greg Jennings for a 60-yard touchdown pass with 3:05 to go in the game to give the Packers the lead. Then a Chiefs pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. The Packers are 7-1. The Chiefs are 4-4, but still leading the weak AFC West. Next week Denver visits Kansas City.
The Dallas Cowboys are 7-1 and a contender. The New York Giants are for real, too.
For the Sunday night game, NBC went green to help the environment. They shut down their lights at halftime. They did the halftime show by candlelight. It reminded me of when I first used a computer, the monitor screen was monochrome. Even the freakin’ NBC peacock was green.
One idea is to have MSNBC shut down their whole network for a week…would anyone notice? Now that would save some energy!
Next week (Nov. 11) is the last week for teams to have a bye week in the regular season. The Texans, Patriots, Jets, and Buccaneers all have a bye.
Go Fast, Turn Left
NASCAR was in Texas where Jimmy Johnson took the checker. He also took over the NASCAR Nextel Cup points lead from Jeff Gordon. Johnson leads Gordon by 30 points. There are two races left. Here are the standings:
1. Jimmy Johnson
2. Jeff Gordon (-30)
3. Clint Bowyer (-181)
4. Kurt Bush (-339)
5. Carl Edwards (-357)

Everyone else is mathematically eliminated from the chase.
