Down the Toilet

It looks like U.S. Senator Larry Craig’s chance of overturning his guilty plea went down the toilet today (pardon the pun) when a judge in Minnesota rejected his request to change his plea.

Then Craig basically told the Senate Republicans to stick it when he said he would not resign from the senate, but finish out his term. He said he would not seek re-election in 2008. Of course, he also said he would resign on September 30.

Nonetheless, Larry Craig has made some very dumb decisions in the last few months.

But I say, “Give em hell Larry.” Your so-called Republican leaders in the senate abandoned you like rats jumping off a sinking ship…for a misdemeanor!

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) must be going a little bonkers these days. NRSC chairman John Ensign has asked Craig to honor his promise to resign September 30. I imagine they will try to keep (bully) Craig from his committee assignments and that’s not fair to Idaho. Craig may maneuver around being stripped of his committee assignments when the time comes that his fellow Republicans need his vote.

Times are a little tough for the NRSC. Warner is retiring, Domenici is retiring, Allard is done and so is Hagel. The Republicans have 22 seats to defend in 2008, and the Democrats have 12. People are starting to believe the democrats in the senate will gain enough seats to get them over the magic number of 60.

I fear that day, but I don’t like bullies either.
